Ajinkya Rahane Shares His Views on Domestic Cricket Selectors

In a conversation with Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane said that recently retired domestic cricketers should be appointed as selectors. He stated that selectors must keep pace with the modern game, adding that decisions should reflect the demands of modern-day cricket.

 

"I want to talk about selectors, especially in domestic cricket. I believe selectors should, wherever possible, be individuals from all states who have played recently or retired within the last 5-7 years," Ajinkya Rahane stated.

"The game is evolving, and it’s crucial for selectors’ mindset and approach to match the current pace of cricket. We don’t want to base decisions on how cricket was played 20–30 years ago. With formats like T20 and the IPL, it’s important to understand the style of modern cricket players," he added.

I am not sure if they will consider Ashwin down the line or even Rahane. Ashwin is one of the most pro-youngster.

Ashwin acts as a cheerleader for players, at least on his channel. He lets Pdogg be the bad cop to trash talk some not so good players, while Ashwin will step in to counter him by supporting the player. It is probably a strategic ploy for digital content, as Ashwin himself being a player (until recently) can't talk negatively about any player.

 

That said, selection requires ability to trade off, not just ability to identify talent. While Ashwin is a good talent spotter, haven't really seen much of his ability to vouch for format-based selections or some player's omission to bring some other player. His narrative is always around who deserves a place and never about who should be excluded in such a situation.

I think Rahane is pitching for PUjara who has recently retired. Rahane is a good candidate himself. But all the selectors become different once they become selectors. We have to see how it pans out.

Hve not seen this interview but same topic comes everytime, its upto local boards to chose their selectors.

 

If some intnl level player is ready to take the job up then no1 is going to say no. But no top intnl level retired player have time or incentive to take domestic level selectors job.

 

They can move into broadcasting, ipl team staff easily and make more mny, players like sachin and dravid still have their sponsors.  Yes domestic senior players take up these jobs.

Most of our ex=players are so delusional. Rahane was averaging in early 30s for the last 7-8 years. Even in 20-21 BGT he couldn't capitalize after the MCG ton, story of his career, one knock per series.

He was a "mediocre" cricketer. Single handedly screwed out chances in both 2014 and 2016 T20 WC.
Need to accept that and should thank his stars that people don't abuse him due to his 20-21 BGT leadership.

That he played T20is at all was insane

Sums up why we kept on losing tournaments one after the other.

 

Selectors didnt had any motivation to identify format experts.

People talk about his Wankhede SF 40(35) knock, but forget how much he sucked in the 2014 edition. Almost cost us the SF against RSA (run a ball 30 in a 175+ chase) and scored 3(8) in the final against Lankans.

Please no more ex players . Selectors should be analysis and sports health and sports data science oriented .. need tech specialists as well .. 

 

data digitization , data collection is key .. too much of the selection is done on a feeling / hunch / popularity because you are ex player .. because they have played it and lived it bull **** I say .

He was a beneficiary of our fab 4 2.0 mindset.. fans rooted n kept believing in them.. only kohli and to a minor extent Pujara delivered..
