Before quota system south africa never went past the semi finals of any cup. After quota system they have reached 3 finals and won one.

Massive credit to him for turning it around though and for winning the WTC. Will still likely end his career with a sub-40 test average and not even 10 test 100s.

 

BTW SA had decided to relax their quota system for big tournaments. T20 WC Final team had Rabada, Maharaj and Shamsi while WTC 2025 Final team had Rabada, Ngidi and Maharaj as three players of color.

Batting in RSA the last 10 years has become extremely difficult. Only AB and Kohli managed a way to consistently score there, at 50+ average. 

 

If you look at their batting stats, no RSA guy has 40+ average. Elgar retired with 37 odd avg, Markram still going at 35-36, Bavuma and de Kock 38+. Not saying they would have averaged 50+ on normal tracks, but they are a bit better than what their stats suggest. In the last cycle, in many low scoring matches, Bavuma would come and score a clutch 30/40/50+, and that would decide the game. Even in WTC final, RSA were getting blown apart in their 1st innings, when Bavuma and Bedingham kept them in the game, and of course in the runchase, he and Markram sealed the deal with a 150 runs partnership in a 280 target.

Jurel is younger and much more fitter.  Sarfaraz is 3-4, years older and not that fit.

Honestly Pant Jurel at 5 and 6 can be game changer for india in sub continental conditions. With old ball and their attacking style of play ans ability to play spin it ll be monstrous with Jadeja and Washington to follow

my point exactly,dont expose him to the new ball that early but the problem is we need somebody to play no 3 and i dont know if Gill will take it on.
