This concept of having different rules for different players is what's keeping us from reaching the next level. That's why players like Jaiswal, Rinku, Sarfaraz don't get their fair shot despite doing everything to deserve it. Right now India's selection is more PR than anything else. You have to play for the "right" IPL franchise (MI, RCB, CSK) to get ahead. With Gill as the golden haired child of Indian cricket even GT might join the other three.

RR and KKR are the ones who're adversely impacted. Jaiswal hasn't been given his chances, and in fact was dropped from T20 despite performing extremely well and much better than Gill. He averages 36 with a SR of 160+ and has better numbers in IPL as well but it's Gill who's forced across the formats. Same with Rinku who averages 57 in FC and almost 50 in List A but can't get in. He did great in T20Is but is the first one to be dropped. But Gill will never be dropped despite laying eggs in multiple tourneys and finals - 2 WTC finals, CT final, Asia Cup final. If it had been Jaiswal, Sarfaraz, Rinku or Pant with these performances they would've been banished forever.

This will cause issues in longterm. Previously test player/batters(apart from specialist test openers ) are selected after they had good Odi records and was a testing grounds. But now as there are fewer Odis the test player are being selected though IPL. And even if some1 can be good test player but not good t20 player and IPL teams are not interested in that player they will not be able to make Ind test side unless they have record breaking seasons like Sarfaz /Nair.

Once out of IPL donot think there is any other way into Ind side now, jalaj  saxena is axample, Eshwara just benches as reserve opener , Bhawne has FC avg of 50+ but wont be picked

Have you read that somewhere?

Yes. Bharath Ramaraj of Revsportz tweets regularly and he said he is not rated against pace.

Even cricinfo did a piece some time ago on why Sarfaraz is not selected

Based on what? Sarfaraz deserves his chance to fail. When likes of Karun Nair were afforded 5 Tests then surely Sarfaraz deserves a few Tests abroad. He has one of the highest averages in Ranji and has performed decently in Tests. Surely he deserves a shot.

You are assuming I agreed with the Karun Nair selection. I was completely against it.

Here is what I can see as the logic behind is non selection

Unfortunately was injured in Buchi Baba  Tournament, and others took their chances in his absence - Gaekwad and Rajat have both had good starts to the season and are competing for same spot. Unfortunately for him Devdutt and Gaekwad have pushed themselves down the order from top order / openers and are both batting at 4

I like Rajat but I don't think he should be in the running for a test spot , and so should not be in the A team. That's one spot Sarfaraz could have had.

I think there are loads of issues with the A squad anyway

Not assuming anything and not related to you. I'm simply pointing out the double standards the team management and selectors have. It's one set of rules for some and a different one for others. This moving the goal posts for certain players is what I pointed out.

Buchi babu is invitational tournament not all ranji teams participate, not all top ranji players plays in it. Domestic boards uses this to test some of their bench.

May be 1-2 top players who are trying to do some pre-season or swing condition simulations participate in this. Fringe ranjo players try to push further their case in playing 11 in their respective ranji sides.

Ind A selection should not be based on that and if he coming back after injury and if they want him then he should have been tried in A sides right ?? Its not like they are selecting for a Full-intnl series.

Like Pant in returning after injury so want him to get some game time in A side.

Sarfarz is going same way as  Tripathi, Patidar, Nair, etc.. .They were given few chances because of sm pressure and then later be dropped.

Agree.. what I meant was the likes of Gaekwad and Rajat did well for Duleep teams whilst Sarfaraz was out unfortunately. I don't even know what they did in the Buchi Babu :-)

It's pretty clear, if you are not a marketable player and do not have sponsorship money behind you, you do not have a place in BCCI team. You can play Ranji, get a good IPL contract based on Franchisee preference but the mafia will pick you based on money first and then performance/ability/fitness. Ofcourse if you have backing of strong lobby then you may eventually get there.

Abhimanyu Eswaran

Sarfaraz Khan

Rinku Singh

These are just three actors be ones. There are countless so many over the last 20-30 years. Earlier it was based on regional bias, now it's all on who brings in more money to the table.

Gambhir and Agarkar has made mockery of selection

Selecting players with no experience or very average domestic perfomance.

Selecting players for test based on IPL perfomances.

Non selection of players having high perfomance in domestic and A teams .

Selecting players based on their perceived allround abilities and sidelining players for their main skills.

Gambhir and Agarkar has completely destroyed the careers of Sarfaraz, Eashwaran, Shami, etc

Gambhir got nothing to do with India A selections.

Appreciate it. Wonder why they didnt care about this before selecting him in Australia tests? Why pick him in squad and then decide he is not good enough without giving him those opportunities? Just seems dubious
