RGS wasn't that great in tests, even in India. Take his stats and break them down to opening vs MO for a better comparison, BRat at his peak (2016/17) was better than RGS' peak having said that most pitches in that season were flatties. RGS' peak didn't last that much, barely a year or two & opening the batting always helps in India at least 9/10 times. This is also why Sehwag was such a game changer at the top & I'd pick him over both these chumps!

I haven't seen many good knocks from Kohli on turning tracks... Based on evidence he would fail vs Maharaj Harmer easily in Eden last week.  So no upgrade detected 

 

2020 Mumbai test he failed.. Post 2021 he was downright pathetic everywhere.

 

A strict mid tier test batter.  Deservedly finished with avg of 46

 

NZ had turning tracks , what did Rohit do there, he was the captain also.

 

Kohli in form would handle guys like Harmer and Maharaj with ease.

On rank turners, Pujara was our best batsman by a landslide, probably even our greatest of all time. Then Vijay had some memorable knocks, even Rahul stepped up in 2017 Bengaluru. Pant and Axar more recently. 

 

Kohli I don't remember having a good knock on rank turners, Rohit had that 160 against Eng in 21 Chennai, 2nd test when we were under pressure, 0-1 down. 

 

Kohli going missing against RSA in 2015 (except Delhi which was a patta, Rahane scored 100 in both innings) and 2017 BGT was a missed opportunity for him. During his peak years he did great in tough conditions of RSA 2017-18 and Eng 2018, but not in India. His home stats are so good because he did heavy scoring in flat pitches of 2010s (many 500+ runs series), not taking anything from him because being ruthless when conditions are easier is an admirable trait.

The loss was down to RGS & Dravid, I've said this probably a thousand times & I'll say it again for as long as I can but RGS throwing his wicket away was the turning point of that game - BRat for a change was our best batter on that day
