Personally I know a relative of mine in INdustry and struggles raising kids but there is no alternative. To bank, Corruption and nexus is bigger issue than employees well being. To employees, Language is not bigger issue compared to future of their kids. There's more corruption involved when loans are given by Banks to the likes of Mallya rather than any corruption between the branch managers etc. Everything is computerized now.

Atleast this policy checks local MLA and their acquaintances level people and branch manager level corruption Simple, Just because Mallaya can do it in cahoots with centre minister and ceo of Bank doesn’t means @bsriharsha is allowed to do same. As long as common people aren't being beaten up for not speaking it. See any sort of violence needs stop. People should be allowed to speak what they please. Even if its English. If two people speak in hindi in mumbai it does not bother me. Its the same with Bombay Mumbai. I say Mumbai many say Bombay. Does not bother me. And i agree let all state business or courts operate in marathi alone. As stated before maharashtra needs to review teaching hindi in state boards if poeple dont have civic sense to grasp basic marathi. Your free to talk and learn hindi. Take legal steps. Lord 1

Today in should be probably arnd 65%. And the rest 35% more comfortable with Hindi (and goes without saying -even if born in Maharashtra). Something for @G_B_ to think. 2. In Karnataka, there's Belagavi on Maharashtra border. 30-35% marathi n kannada population each who talk to each other in Hindi. And likewise in big cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata etc. people from different regions talk in Hindi even if there mother tongue for all is not hindi. Zabardasti kisi ko local language nahi sikha sakte, I was in Hyderabad for 5 yrs, learned very little Telugu like all my non local colleagues....but today if I am there, i will surely learn much more out of my own interest and respect. It has to come from heart. I doubt if the rest 32% are more comfortable with Hindi. Many of them would be comfortable speaking in Marathi to each other. Case in point a Gujarati ( who has lived in Pune for generations ) and a Marwari ( again a local) when they meet would speak to each other in Marathi. By census data, they would be a part of the 32% whose mother tongue is *not* Marathi. Your assertion here is untrue. If I travel to the Konkan/Goa etc, I always speak Marathi when English isn't understood that easily.

I happen to be not sentimental about languages... languages come, go, evolve etc....arnd 400-500 languages have gone extinct in last 50-60 years alone. Not saying Marathi is going extinct but it's a perspective worth looking at.... My mother tongue Sindhi is spoken in ulhasnagar in Mumbai, sardar nagar, mani Nagar, kuber Nagar etc in Ahmedabad, 40-50% of ajmer city is Sindhi. it is OK to talk in Sindhi with some Sindhi speaker , won't expect a non Sindhi to learn Sindhi if he's living in Sindhi area. Hindi happens to be the 2nd largest language 2 billion speakers out of 8 billion humanity There probably isnt a Maharashtrian who doesn't speak Hindi. It is important for national integration. My belief is hindi should be sufficient in anywhere in India. Will get there shortly if not already there. BacktoCricaddict and Lord 2

I welcome Sanskrit imposition.

Knowledge of Hindi is far more than english in India 2. More comfortable in sentence structure and grammar of Hindi. 3. Hindi is indian language. I have nothing against English. Globally it's number 1 regardless the number of native speakers.

Tbh I found difficulty communicating with some of my South Indian college friends they lacked understanding of even basic Hindi words. They managed to learn some of it by the course of time... But the fact was English was common medium for us. My bubble was burst as well that Hindi can be national language for us. Hindi is extremely Urdufied, Punjabified and Pahadified in North India atm.. dialects have been completely altered. Common kids these days don't understand unadulterated pure Hindi it's a fact now. Only English is unifying Language for all Indians.

I meant obviously in the northern Parts or talking with North Indians I would prefer Hindi or adulterated Hindi that's spoken these days. Writing no one gives a damn about Hindi these days. It gets evaporated by the time kids reach High school these days. Hindi novels and literature has been discarded already mostly. It's now being called a thing of the past. English has appeal & if we are talking about a unifying langauge and the language that Indians need to rally behind to catch up with the world and show the country's actual potential, it's without a doubt English. It is the only national language Indians can have. Edited December 7, 2025 by Lone Wolf mishra and kepler37b 2
