How can we fix our Test cricket ?

Fans, pandits, journos all need to remain consistent. As soon as we start winning in odis or t20 all will start we can field 2 teams bullshit and this series will be forgotten

Remove both GG and Agarkar

 

Select players on basis of Ranjis and give them a decent run at one position

Bring back King and make him the captain again, at least for the remainder of this WTC Cycle.

1) Pick specialist batters and bowlers - All-rounder should be limited to 1 - Pace or Spin all-rounder depends on conditions.

 

2) Pick players that are suited to Test format with sole criteria being Ranji Trophy and not IPL.

 

3) Stop preparing rank turners which make a match into lottery.

 

If you do 1 and 2, you'll have enough confidence to win on typical Indian wickets and you won't have to doctor pitches.

Rohit should cancel test retirement, much fitter now, playing Odis until 2027 WC might as well play tests until 2027 wtc cycle to stay in rhythm. 7/9 games remaining will be in Asia, who knows India might qualify for 2027 WTC final.

Connection -dont think about point loosing risk and making constant chopping-changing

Discarding Nair in favour of Sai was a wrong move in hindsight. Domestic veterans batsman like Nair, Gaikwad, Rinku or even Mayank would have done much better on home pitches simple because they know how to churn out runs after runs on these kind of pitches.

 

Sai, Nitish and maybe Jurel bypassed the Ranji and got picked straight in XI.

Bring in experienced domestic batter of spin at No. 3- Karun Nair, Gaikwad or maybe even Tilak.
Bring in experinced domestic batsman at No. 6 - Rinku or somebody else but a genuine batsman

Bring in a new specialist spinner to compliment Kuldeep- Maybe Harsh Dubey

1. Spin friendly conditions.
2. Washington and Jadeja are not frontline spinners anymore.

Ideally only one of Jadeja and Washington should play but ironically both are our most secure batsman.

Need to fix domestic pitches so they aren't green top with low bounce which helps no one: batsmen can't play spin or high pace, bowlers don't learn reverse, no good pacemen coming through

Not feasible. The Indian public that keeps the circus on the road wants to watch the T20 jamboree above all else. There isn't much demand for tests and the format doesn't have enough competitive teams to make it an attractive product. There is a reason why this was a 2 test series versus the world champions followed by 3 ODIs and 5 T20s.

Tests in india will have to be subsidised by the white ball formats as they currently are. Only if the product is worth watching will the dynamics improve.

Unlike England and Australia where there is a large, reliable support base for test cricket, India runs on white ball cricket in general and T20 specifically. In some ways the trajectory of the team is not altogether surprising.

tv rights money for the ipl are down two years in a row. test cricket is a wierd beast. more supply tends to generate demand. if the just concluded two test series was five tests, eyeballs would rocket. the end destruction of the test format is a wilful choice not some unstoppable human condition

Not really. The free market is delivering its verdict. Given a choice people in India prefer white ball games to get their cricketing fix.

There is a reason why this 2 test premium series is bookended by 16 white ball games in Australia and India.

The Indian team performing poorly in one sided contests will also decrease patronage of tests further.
