Players also have to be held to account

Gambo is public enemy #1 quite rightly as buck stops with the leader who in this cse is the coach and not interim captain but it is important that some of the players don't escape scrutiny because of the heat on him. Too many of them have been a common factor in both whitewashes where they should've taken more responsibility for their lack of performance. Thinking likes of Jaiswal, Pant, Rahul, Jurel, Kuldeep, etc.

Bumrah, KL, Siraj performed exactly as I expected, latter 2 are useless selections at home. Bumrah was decent but didn't perform like the world's best, comprehensively outbowled by a young visiting pacer again, matter of concern now. Prime Shami, Umesh would have never been outbowled like this.

38 yo Jadeja is still our MVP, laanat on the youngsters.

Sai, Jurel, Reddy aren't cut for test cricket. Let them go and grind in domestic for a few years.

Same team basically toured Australia later. What changed?

Losing in Australia is now a crime, how many Indian teams have  won in Australia.

Still after that series loss everyone has gone why is this guy still getting chances.

Point is not about losing in Australia, the Nzl series preceded it and apart from Sarfaraz - who was always going to be on the bench for that series - there were no other changes.

None of those 3 stepping up or contributing hurt us. This made a difference in the England series last yr. Patidar and Bharat were useless and Sarfaraz, Jurel were big upgrades.

If I have to give series ratings for the players, nobody apart from Jaddu will get pass marks.

Never seen such a complete garbage performance. 2004 Aus, 2012 Eng, 2024 NZ all had some bright spots.

Another thing, never give captaincy to Pant.

Among this bunch of idiots, Gill is still the best option.

Pant as captain reminds me of gully cricket

Why was he always going to be on bench in Australia, what did Jurel and Paddikkal do to leapfrog Sarfraz.

Those things show how much toxcity this guy has been spreading. They have come to roost now.

Remove him as coach and add couple of players by removing pseudo allrounders the same Indian team  will whitewash SA.SA is not great team by any means.

Players can always have bad series but it does not mean they don't belong. Pant had historic series in England, he is allowed to have a bad series.

Gambhir on other hand does not belong as coach. That is the difference.

Jadeja is OG. Washed up . Still has some spark left which is why he should quit. India needs a real shock. ENough Jaddu bailing them out with bat.

Sarfaraz has always looked less than convincing against pace and bounce, he was not going to be preferred in Australia for this reason.

Re not belonging as coach, you need to give a chance to prove that too that he doesn't belong. Would not have made any sense to sack him after 1 series only.

Sarfraz looked just as out of place against spin on turning wickets as these guys. But i think Iyer, Mayank, Karun type of guys would have made runs

Iyer got failed against Australia and England at home and you think he will score against South Africa,Jansen would have licking his lips :wp23:

He kinda threw his wicket away a couple of times. He looked lot assured at Mirpur when we were staring down the barrell at 74/7.

Did Jurel look convincing, he has not reached 15 when playing as batsman. Sai has not looked to be even belonging in international cricket even after playing on flattest pitches.

Has Sundar looked part here, on a pitch where other offspinner won the match, he took one wicket in the series.

You cannot be on trial every match as player.Anyone with right mind could see Sarfraz had ability to play international cricket.

He should never been hired as Coach  in the first place, he stole credit from both Coach and Captain for winning IPL plus given his combative and abrasive nature as a player always trying to steal credit  and discrediting others.

Good point. This whole focus on "looking the part" removes objectivity from the process the fruits of which we are reaping now.

Sarfaraz has a domestic average of 60+. He has a test 150 and 3 50s in the 6 tests he has played. Those are not numbers of a person who cannot handle all types of bowling. KL Rahul is playing 65+ tests with an average of 35 but apparently Sarfaraz's career has to be over after 6 tests !

Others like Jurel and Sai, as you rightly point out, have leapfrogged him with inferior records and the assumption that their game is superior in some conditions ( pace or spin friendly) without any numbers backing up this subjective vibes based assessment.
