Virtual QF, then SF and F. Monstrous performances in all of them. When was the last time we saw anything like this?

Perhaps Smith in 2015 WC but that team was on autopilot mode. Here our batting unit was struggling till they brought back Sanju, that too as opener.

I have seen 2 back-to back bangers. Aravinda's heroics in 1996 SF and F come to mind. But 3? So special.

Even if Sanju doesn't score a run for rest of life, his legacy is sealed. GOAT batting performance in the history of T20 WCs.

We saw how inform Markram , Miller were struggling to handle the nerves in the semi final.  Sanju showed zero nerves in all 3 games despite being not a regular. This has to be mother of all T20 performances across the world cups.

Best part about recent triumphs is nice folks getting their redemption arc. Chakri in CT, Sanju here, Bumrah in 24 T20 WC, all these players went through hell and lots of trolling, but ghosts of the past got buried by their own excellence. @Lord @rollingstoned also mentioned that in the past, about Chakri.

Ashwin had to bear  the brunt of these fan bots since he was backing Sanju. Gill bots and other guys. Even now these fan bots try to deride his performance citing pitches were flat.

Ashwin was one prominent ex-player backing Sanju in his bad times.

In general, Ashwin's reading of the game is fantastic, far better than other Indian experts. Good thing is he is also willing to improve and learn, no ego....calls random fans, analysts and is willing to absorb what they say. His YT channel is a blessing among Indian cricket content.

Almost everyone has a story of some kind in this team. It's a cruel twist of fate and irony that Rinku's father's death is what gave Sanju his chance. Lot of things had to transpire before he could play 3 match winning innings in 3 KO matches. Crazy when you think about it.

Ques--- Is sanju going to lead Ind to next t20i wc ????

Surya is 35, will be 37 next world cup. Iyer should get the spot.

Most of this batch will still be in prime next WC.

Kannada Players need to learn how to rise to occasion like Malayali players.

Other than Marathi Dravid, Malayali Kumble and English Speaking Srinath.. - they have not produced true son of the soil players like Multiple time WC winner Sreesanth, Multiple time worldcup winner Samson etc.

if not for the unfair bias given towards kannada players, More malayalis would have made Indian team like Anantapadmanabhan, Balan Pandit and K Jayaram in the 80s and 90s

Giving chances to street level bowlers like Mithun and Vinay Kumar while discarding potential greats like tall and handsome Tinu Yohannan…

sigh

WIth due respect to Sanju, he is not the most important malayali Cricket. That has to be Nithin Menon.  He is on his way to becoming GOAT umpire

There is one technical adjustment i saw in sanju. I made a point about Sanju going into crease every ball and making it difficult for him. I looked at meeting points of him in the last few games. There were times he was outside the crease. Something he should have done long back. Instead of standing in one spot all the time if he had used the crease better he would have done much better.

Missed this thread earlier. And I must say I'm so glad to be proven wrong. My preference has always been Jaiswal as an opener and thought Samson was way too inconsistent with 1 or 2 decent innings every IPL and nothing else. He always looked good but never made a difference and was more like Carl Hooper in that respect.

But boy was I proven wrong! His 3 back-to-back innings in the virtual QF against WI, in SF against Eng and in the final against NZ was stuff of legends! Never seen any player rise to occasion in such a manner in so many knockout games before.

My apologies Sanju Samson. You were amazing this WT20 and our MVP alongside Bumrah :hail:
