upriser7 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I think I have noticed is that when you have a reputation like Bumrah, batsmen are kinda premeditated to not take risks against him. Even when he bowls bad bowls, batsmen are just to play him out and not take any chances. There were few balls that Bumrah bowled yesterday which were not good towards the end but Curran just took a single. If the same bowl was bowled by someone else, it likely would have been a 4 or 6 sage 1

This one somehow manages to set itself apart McGrath had 100% control and accuracy over his bowling. He could drop the ball exactly where he wanted every single time. And he could swing or cut it either way in nearly every condition. McGrath would have been like Bumrah if he played in the T20 era. One has to see how Hazlewood has evolved and can easily understand what magic McGrath could have done

I hope Shami holds his fitness as well too 2 hours ago, Gollum said: Funny how ROTW admires/respects Bumrah more than our own people. We are so lucky to have him in our setup. Unfortunately in India, batsmen are UCs, spinners are OBCs and fast bowlers Dalits. Champs like Bumrah, Shami should be top draws for endorsements, but they get overshadowed even by KL Rahul. Sachin, Kohli jitne bhi bade hai, Bumrah is much bigger than them. They themselves will admit to that. 7 hours ago, New guy said: Its a pity we have so less Bumrah praise threads and most of the time he is just criticized. He has delivered in another crucial match Faf about Bumrah.... "Team India don't understand how lucky they are to have him [Bumrah] in their ranks," du Plessis said on ESPNcricinfo's TimeOut show. "It is just proven time and time and time again, regardless of the format, you just give him the ball and he wins you games. It's a superpower that any captain will dream of; it's like having a genie, you just rub the lamp and out comes Bumrah." 7 hours ago, Norman said: All he needs is an ODI World Cup. You can't topple McGrath (who won it thrice with handy contributions) without winning even one And then we've some posters on this forum claiming Bumrah is a "choker" when it was the so called batting stars who're to blame for India not winning any WCs with Bumrah and Shami at the helm. In 2019 the batters imploded to 5/3 while chasing 240 and that too after dropping our best pacer in Shami for Chahal And in 2023 WC the batters shat the bed again by scoring 240 on a patta after Rohit had given them a wonderful start of 80 off 10 overs. All they had to do was score at 5 an over rest of the innings and we get to near 300, which would've been competitive. Bumrah and Shami were the reasons India were competitive and our bowling kept us in the hunt in every tourney and yet there're morons on this forum biggying up batters and the so called "Kings" while blaming Bumrah when Bumrah has been carrying the team for ages. It's a travesty that Bumrah (and Shami) has yet to win a ODI WC and his Aussie counterparts have 2 (2015 and 2023) when Bumrah is heads and shoulders above than Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood. The difference was that Aussie bowlers got the backing of their batter at the crunch in Warner, Smith, Head etc. whereas our so called stars failed to do anything in the big moments. Our batters scored cheap runs in bilaterals and group stages whereas Aussie batters showed up in big mements. That's why a legend like Bumrah doesn't have a ODI WC while his Aussie colleagues have 2! So your analogy is incorrect, specially in a T20 game where batters had to swing the willow to have any chance. Bumrah, in most of the cases is just leagues above in terms of skills and performance, and reputation follows the performance. bouncers, New guy and Ultimate_Game 1 2

It's only him , Marshall , Steyn. McGrath and all come really later into the convo. I'm so glad that you added Steyn to the list. Often gets overlooked. Shane Bond potentially had the most raw talent. It's a shame that his career didn't pan out for some more years to really give him a shot at the top 5 list. bsriharsha 1

Chaos Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Is this a question still? He proved in australia he is the best in ALL formats. Minus boland our fisherman, fatty n everyone got annihilated.fatty had to decency to sit out one test while shameless fisherman fished same way vvvslaxman 1
goose Posted March 6 Posted March 6 bumrah is singlehandedly keeping the T20 format alive. it's tempting at times to look at the run fests and conclude bowlers are irrelevant. but then there's bumrah reminding us it is in fact possible to make a difference! Ultimate_Game 1

If anything he would be more successful he was bowling to same players he was bowling to in odi cricket. At the start t20 was just about taking more risk , say a rain shortened Odi game. Previosly there were only 1-2 batters who could hit 6/4s :- One top oder batter like jaysurya, and some 1 down the order razzaq etc. Now its have become more technical, batters have better hitting technique.

His ability was being constant and Aus bowlers found a length which was unhitable for batters back then (23-qtr/just short of good length) but these days batters have shots for those. If you bowl 2 same balls back2 back you are going to go for 4/6 t20 is diff. sport. ppl need to understand it. its similar to racing fundamental of 100m is same as 800m but diff sports and diff. skills and diff athletes. A fair example will be compare a tennis ball cricketer/batter to say intnl cricketer. will intnl batter be able to adapt yes but can they be as good as other tennis ball cricket/batter ---no Edited March 7 by tapandrun

Spinners lengths have changed in t20s as well. Previously which were the length spinners wanted to hit are now high risk

He considers Bumrah is the greatest T20 bowler of all time. Others don't even bring any others. Actually it is the Indians that are under-rating Bumrah the most. They actually see Bumrah and a gulf after him as an ATG all format bowler because of his intelligence, variations, delivering under pressure, defending small runs despite being exposed heavily in all formats. May be he is the ATG across the formats. Ultimate_Game 1

There was not such exhaustive data analysis. batters knew he/Aus team was bowling tighter lines and lengths and for long period of time. They did not have shots for it or the technique for to hit those balls for 4/6 or even to put it in gaps. Batters were use to of playing good length balls, and hit them or survive them and hit full length or half volly balls. They would wait for it and new it was coming but it never happened with Aus bowlers. Ind batters that time almost became leg-side batters, they started flicking the balls come into line almost flick or dab to ball to leg-side from chest height. That time only sehwag was playing off-side and all ind batters turned into legside players and you would find then getting beaten often when out-swing bowlers came. Edited March 7 by tapandrun

Bhai even if there was no data analysis, once they saw Aussies succeeding with it, it would have caught on. But executing it consistently was another issue. Similarily, everyone knows why Bumrah is successful. Still they cant do what he does despite all data analysis singhvivek141, bouncers and Ultimate_Game 1 2
