I was the biggest supporter of Iyer as captain. But with the rise of VS and Kishan 2.0, and the fact that Iyer was not even in the T20I squad, I wouldn't have rushed him into the T20I side. Instead, brought him in the squad, made Samson captain and Iyer vice captain for 6-10 months and then figured out captaincy based on how the team is shaping up for the next World T20 .

you cant do that.guys like samson are too streaky and their place in the team is not settled.even in the IPL we saw how streaky Samsons season went.from absolute low to 3 3 centuries to absolute low again.

You don't go by IPL stats for well settled guys that too for the one who played back to back 3 MOM games in KOs in just concluded WC

Infact SKY wasn't even the best player when they started to prepare for 2026 wc

Guy has had multiple winning knocks in T20I in the last couple of years, including man of the tournament in World T20.

Easily, he starts in the T20 side for the next year or so. Make him captain and re-assess after a year, if how I would have gone about it.

I don't agree with it at all. Replace the weakest link (SKY in this case) with the best possible alternative.

We still need a middle order batter at 4. It was between Iyer and Patidar and to me Iyer has shown a lot more over the years and deserves the spot. rest of the players you're talking about (Abhishek, Sooryavanshi, Ishan etc.) are top order batters and should bat in the top 3. They're not middle order batters who bat when the field is spread out. Ishan is the only one I can see but even he has had his best performances in the top order. Plus Iyer's a great captain to boot.

Maybe they are experimenting with him,if he fails they will not spare a moment before booting him out in the build up to wc

IPL has too many trundlers too feast on in middle overs,which he has done very well

It should be appreciated thathe punishes loose,meek bowling but he can be tied down as his career SR shows,he won't get juicy short trundlers in international t20s

Also pitches in early season Australia can be really tough as we saw in 2022 World T20 .

He's a spin killer and not bad against pacers too. In the 2023 WC and CT he was our best middle order batter and our middle order enforcer. To say he feasts on weak bowling or a poor T20 player is incorrect. And he's a pretty great leader. He has taken 3 down-trodden franchises (KKR, DC and PBKS) to finals and won one IPL as well. That's an amazing track record and he has led teams with no stars.

The star player argument doesn't work in T20s T20 is a format where upsets happen more often than not
KKR had Starc,Russell,Narine, and Varun
We have seen many times that guys who have played for India or are currently part of the Indian team in some format, know how to score runs in the IPL unless they are terribly out of form or in Twilight years like badada Vada and SKY
He is a weak link if given entry and will destroy the existing combination. I don't see this move being any different from last year's Gill movein fact,maybe it's even worse

Nope. There's nobody who can replace Dube at 6. Iyer is replacing SKY and Sooryavanshi will take one of Abhishek, Samson or Ishan's spot in the top order. I think they'll rotate the other 3 so Sooryavanshi plays every match. Rest of the team remains unchanged with Reddy slotting in for Pandya.
