Zero_Unit Posted July 31 Posted July 31 (edited) Man how many more players will retire like this. Can't BCCI let them retire on the field with some dignity. Arrange a match with nepal if you have to. Every national player deserves an on field retirement. Edited July 31 by Zero_Unit

They should have conversation with players who played for long period and explain right before dropping them for good. Given the amount of talent that we produce in the batting department there won't be many opportunities for players who want to retire gracefully. You will have a small window.

They can have internal retirement gigs etc., but in this day and age, a retirement match or series or whatever is obsolete. Just symbolism that does not benefit the current or future team. We enjoyed watching them. They retire. We recall some good memories. Raise your glass, let em go. But then again, I am one who cringes when people say - "he gave everything he had for the game. We owe him" Those praises were all good in the bygone era when guys didn't get paid much for their "service to the game" and all that. Now, they're professionals making real good money for their services. Cut them their last cheque, shake their hand, appreciate their talent ... no need to gush with gratitude etc. Edited July 31 by BacktoCricaddict

Often, these top-level athletes don't see the writing on the wall for a long time after it is clear. Their self-belief is a double-edged sword - it kept them going when they faced challenges in their career, but also lured them into believing they could play forever. vvvslaxman 1

Everyone criticized his recall. He ended up being the highest run getter making 89 & 46. BacktoCricaddict 1

Like @vvvslaxman mentioned, should tell them their plan and tell them it's time to take retirement. I always feel like any international player that has played for a specific country for a while deserves one last hoorah, not off the field. From the field.

Absolutely agree. Never said it was connections. Just said they have been duly rewarded for their efforts - with money and adulation. As for communication, even if the board says "you know, you are not in our plans anymore," what can anyone do if the player himself believes that he can force his way back? No one can control that. And playing a match just for the sake of a farewell at this point? That's just symbolism. Serves no real purpose.
Chaos Posted July 31 Posted July 31 He played cracking innings in aussie land. We won that series. He should have played aggressive all the time
vvvslaxman Posted August 1 Author Posted August 1 Who are the guys that are yet to announce retirement from international and still have no scope to play for India? Bhuvi? Krun Nair? Mayank?
vvvslaxman Posted August 1 Author Posted August 1 Pujara has paid tributes to Jinkhs https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/cheteshwar-pujara-pays-tribute-to-his-india-team-mate-ajinkya-rahane-1548292

Krun Nair? Mayank? You can't fault these players. They know Indian selectors are extremely fickle and fans are too dumb. I mean there are already calls for adding Bhuvi into the 2027 world cup squad for what he did in the last IPL. Just one good domestic/IPL season is enough for these guys to walk back into the team..I won't be surprised if Mayank still has a spell or twofor India in the coming years.

Can't count the number of times he got out after a break when he was in absolute control. A flawed Mumbaikar who were not known for long batting style. IN hsi entire career only once he batted beyond 250 balls. That was during his 188 at Pune. Since 2010 those who batted 250 balls or more in an innings. Pujara - 12 times Kohli - 11 times Vijay - 8 times Rahul - 5 times Jaiswal 4 times Agarwal - 3 times Dravid - 3 times Laxman - 3 times Rohit - 3 times Tendulkar - 3 times Ashwin - 2 times Dhoni - 1 time Dhawan - 1 time Rahane - 1 time Gill - 1 time What does this look like for other teams? Who’s in the 10+ camp

There are some xutiya low IQ youtubers and journos fueling this agenda to bring Boobie and Shami back... That's why I want Agarkar to double down on his selections and keep backing youngsters. Indian fans don't remember Boobie Shami Ishant used to be terrible for good 3-4, years across formats. Boobie remained a trash ODI bowler while Shami increased his pace and became a legendary test and ODi exponent. Indian fans have uber short memories. Nileshkohli and Norman 1 1

Ashwin has a history to come up with some gems... He was also part of Gandul Kamboj hype brigade. Also these dosti yaari types guy should stay away from Indian cricket. Most of his peers will be out by 2029 when he will be eligible to a coaching or selector job so there will be no conflict of interest. Agarkar is in perfect age bracket to make a call on these guys.
