Its natural, no human can perform at 100% efficiencies everyday...and thats why their performance at an extended period matters. Bumrah has been a class performer over a massive sample size. The two T20 World Cups we won..he bowled like a Champion. Even in Tests, he bowled like a force...its just that our batters were inept to support him when mattered. Only small ? mark is his performance vs/in NZ. But he compensates that massively by his performance vs/in Australia. Avg of 17.x in Australia is excellent and phenomenal. Suhaan and New guy 2

MechEng Posted August 15 Posted August 15 I dont know about being the GOAT, but I'm not cool with skipping tests selectively too. Its ok to skip T20s and ODIs but not tests. Even Anderson at 40 was not this selective.

Having my coffee, so about your second post. Anyone can have a bad match. But bowler having bad match and batsman having bad match are different. It takes one ball for a batsmen to get out.Bowler gets multiple chances. So bowler not getting a single wicket on helpful track is different.Batsmen have gotten out on flattest of tracks for ducks when others have scored runs.Opposite rarely happens. Bumrah is a ATG fast bowler but I have a problem in calling some one GOAT when others have done lot more than him.If he reaches there, I will be first person to call him. Edited August 15 by putrevus
goose Posted August 15 Posted August 15 i've never been a massive believer in the longevity of a batsman or how long their purple patch was when discussing GOAT status. it's more a factor obviously with ATGs and Gs. i think people make far too much of tendulkar's longevity. my own eyes told me i'm probably looking at the best batsman in the history of the sport when watching him in the 90s. i wasn't alone either. warne and grieg dared to make the blasphemous comparison with bradman in the 90s when he has no record stats. if anything his longevity detracted from his legacy amongst those that must rely on youtube to capture his best years which we all know is no substitute for 'being there' with bowlers its slightly different. the demands on the body are such that you really do need to prove your bowling action and domination lasted at least 350 wickets. if bumrah was more aesthetically pleasing i might forgo this somewhat and say 300 wickets. i find myself admiring his test bowling average more so than his actual bowling which isn't ideal. one more BGT (the one we lost 1-3) type series could enhance perception on his way to 300 and that would seal GOAT qualification. make no mistake if he tails off from here he won't make the GOAT debate. Actually opposite too happens. Shane Warne, probably the biggest leggie in the entire cricketing history always failed vs India. There are some matches where Warne & McGill played together, McGill outperformed Warne in most number of games. The match where Waqar got the beating of his life and lost his mental balance. Prasad broke the back of the opposition. In 1999 WC as well, same Prasad blow out half team of Pakistan single handedly. Both Akram & Akhtar collectively couldnt do that much damage. Despite one being a SWING KING and other being a SPEED DEMON. And we all agree that Akram, Waqar & Akhtar were better bowlers than Prasad. McGill was good but inferior to Warne. So in what world Bumrah has a case for GOAT. He is not GOAT in odis either his weakest format. Sachin, Kohl all have carried the blame for their failures in important matches.People are not wrong in expecting great things from great players. In Bumrah's case it is the same. Bumrah is GOAT t20 bowler , it is safe to say he will remain that way due to his age and injuries. He is a ATG fast bowler in all formats who will be a hall of famer. But people need to give it a rest about him being GOAT. Edited August 16 by putrevus
