I guess every Indian cricketer who has improved his performance has to credit Manju because there is a good chance he has said something negative about them at some point or the other :cantstop:....Even SRT did not escape Manju's hate :hysterical:
Not everyone "improved" after reading Manju's criticisms.

only if manju has criticised himself :hmmm:

Manjrekar atleast has the courage to say things which are good sometimes unlike other paid senior cricket commentators, everything he has said in this article is spot on, even his criticism of Sachin during that phase was not unjustified

Now he is bowling outside off stump and getting the rewards. He must be listening to legends like Erappalli prasanna and Ian Chappell I guess
Or just his own coach.

He always had the straighter one. Arm ball. He just wasn't bowling in the right areas consistently against England. Would beat Cook with good deliveries but would give away singles and release pressure. Against Australia at home, he got back his accuracy and did well. Later when we toured Australia, he mastered flight and dip.
If he had one he would not be trying to get lefties out in Australian series at home sweeping from round the wicket. Swann was killing lefties because he could turn the ball away and bring the ball back from same spot, they had no clue where to go back or from due to that along with the dip. Bowling arm ball by itself is not a big deal, bowling it along with consistent offbreak is the big deal , at least I did not see Ashwin do it on consistent basis as he has done this series.

That was one innings. Even in Aus series, he got lefties out with the arm ball. Swann had flight and DIP which made his spin and arm balls more effective. Ashwin has that now and hence its more effective. Pivot also matters. Ashwin pivots well which allows him to spin more but in the home rank turners he didn't need to pivot so much to get those turn. The difference is flight and dip. And pivot (which is making him effective even in slow turn pitches).

Ashwin is certainly demonstrating a better command over flight and pivot, but I think he still has some way to go with regards to dip - I'm not saying that he lacks it or anything, but he needs to work somewhat on it.

Can you elaborate bro? Which spin bowlers (current and past) exhibited tremendous supreme level dip? And what one should do to get better dip?

For me, Pras demonstrated considerable command of dip amongst offies. Dip is closely related to the Magnus effect which is pretty complicated involving some serious fluid dynamics - friction, aerodynamics, laminar flow, etc. Dip is mostly caused through overspin (like tennis' top spin) which makes the ball dip faster (through additional downward acceleration apart from gravity) and ball hits ground from steeper angle, thereby bouncing more. Thus, one purpose of dip is to make the batsman misjudge where the ball is gonna pitch and how much it's gonna bounce. This is my crude understanding of the technical details, which may be imperfect or even wrong :)

Have you watched Pras play? And what about other spinners' ability to get dip? How about Swann, Murali? Didn't Bhajji get jaw dropping dip in the 2001 Aus series?

I have seen extensive videos of his bowling, though I never saw him live... he was before my time. Didn't mention Murali because his action is different from that of conventional offies with a heavy use of the wrist. Yes, he achieved as much dip and flight as the best ever during his peak. However, Ashwin cannot look to Murali for an example owing to differences in bowling style. Bhajji was excellent in that series, but I don't think I would label his dip "jaw-dropping"; his trajectory was always a bit flattish, but I'd certainly agree that he achieved considerable dip. Swann is a conventional offie, and he is really the one Ash should be looking towards. Gets lots of revs and dip - esp with regd to lefties.
