MM thanks very much for your in depth analysis on Mithun. Much appreciated. Since you have seen him bowl can you let me know the answer to one burning question I've had regarding him? Does he hit the deck hard? Bowling quick is great, and yes a bigger physique helps but really only because it generates quicker rotation of the arm. It's been proven that in order to bowl fast the biggest factor is the speed and length of the arc of rotation of the bowling arm. You can be thinly built but if you have long arms and move the arm from knee to bowling and releasing quickly then you generate greater speed. Brute strength has more to do with hitting the deck hard. Does Mithun do this? In my opinion its a very under rated quality in fast bowling. Bowlers who hit the deck hard like Freddie can absolutely hurry the batsmen even at 140 kph because the ball hurries onto to them. No current capped Indian bowler does this consistently in my opinion. Although Tyagi is very intriguing. He's very young and very inexperienced but I've been impressed with his bowling so far.

Frankly, its quite hard to tell. It is sort of hard for me to answer specific questions on his bowling because even I have seen him bowl only a handful of overs. In terms of hitting the pitch hard, I did not see any of deliveries explicitly thudding into the keepers' gloves, but nor did I see any die down on their way to the keeper either. He got the same amount of bounce (maybe a fraction more) as someone like Agarkar or Kulkarni did. And here's few more things that I missed about in my earlier posts about him; He has a very good release and ball comes out of his hand with the seam almost bolt upright, which is a very good sign. And he does make the ball move, both in the air and off the pitch (mainly into the left-handers though). Earlier, I had mention that he does not have rhythmic action. I think I'd like to do a slight retraction as that. Sure, he isnt silky smooth as a Bond, Donald or an Agarkar, but his action is quite co-ordinated, which he means he should be able to reproduce it every single ball without trouble. That probably explains why he bowls very few loose balls. I'd like to repeat again, for someone's who just 20, he does have very good control. You made an interesting point about the length of the arc of the bowling arm. Since he seems to have an unusually long span, even though he's around 6'2, 6'3, I think he probably has the release of a 6'4 bowler, which also gives him some extra advantage.

Thanks, sure a longer wingspan does help but so will developing the shoulder and back muscles to push that arm quicker through rotation. Kulkarni, Tyagi, Mithun and Sharma are guys that could hold the key to our long term test success. I hope these guys can see a lot of tour action under the India A teams because it's a great way to prepare for internation duties away from the limelight and pressure of media/country scrutiny. I think that's one way to really help the young bowlers. I wonder how many A tours and so on are on schedule this season?

Congrats Mithun - Top Wicket Taker 2009/10 RANJI SEASON Hearty congragulation to Mithun,20 years, becoming the TOP wicket taker of His country in his First season.He bowled whole heartedly throuhout and especially in FINAL. Also Congarts to vinay who was Leading wicket taker Through out Season but conceded lead in last innings (Mithun 47,Vinay 46). Thanks for reviving karnatakas fortunes i Domestic season..which was in cold storage Most of years in last decade. *Lets Hope these 2 share new ball for RCB in IPL 3. we can see whether Mithun can cope ineternational level compettion in march.

More than the IPL, Mithun will get a chance to do well in DUlepp trophy first and then perhaps for the toru game against SA as well. Will be interesting to see how he bowls in those matches.Hopefully he can keep doing well.

I agree with IPL part..but as a RCB fan we need Better bowlers. Duleep trophy wont make much diffrence if they played in dead tracks..SA tour game will definitely Help
