Cricketics Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 With all the talks of poor bowling India has, why isn't Praveen Kumar ever given a chance in test. I have raised the issue before also and would like to see him really in the Test team. With the unique action he has, he is the one who spining.swinging the ball on every delivery which he bowls. He can definately get bagful of wickets in test matches. I think he should be tryed in tests line up. Especially on subcontinent wickets.

I recollect watching him in the UP/Delhi final a few years back where he was very impressive in patches... with the new ball he was deadly, swinging it all over the place for the first 10-15 overs and making life hell for a very good Delhi top order (Chopra, Gambhir, Dhawan, Manhas, etc). Once the swing went, it was like watching Ganguly bowl. :(( Really useless for the next 60-odd overs, until the second new ball came about at which point he demolished the lower order. It's too big a risk playing 4 bowlers and having one who's only a useful bowler when the ball is 10-15 overs new, and ineffective otherwise.

Bigger risk than playing bowlers who are ineffective with new and old ball? :(( Given our scarce resources it's not a bad idea. He won't run through sides with an older ball, but he has got good control and this is not ODIs or T20 where batsmen will willfully look to attack him on every opportunity.

His main problem is not when ball stops moving, its when batsmen attack him, kind of like Asif BTW, Asif had become the no 2 test bowler now despite being ordinary in LOIs

thevortex Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Not a bad idea, really. He is very talented. However, he just lacks that extra bit of pace. He can pick wickets when batsmen are trying to score off him. Can he still pick wickets if batsmen want to defend him? Cannot say right now. I would venture to guess that he will not be that great a threat at international Test level. His movement (in and out) is prodigous but early and that should not be such a problem at the highest level.

If he can consistently pick up wickets with the new ball, he should be in the team.
