kabira Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 SA ideally would want to declare after 330 on the board..It depends how first session goes..If get Amla early and ABV fails, they will play for draw which is where Bhajji can pressurized them with closing fielder
f.b.m Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Quite a few batsmen are due a big inning given their form: Peterson, Amla, ABDV and Boucher. Bhajji has to produce something special to prevent that.
fineleg Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 ^ Let's see. The only South African batsman I've seen play with genuine aggression and intent is Smith in these kind of situations. Even during the chase at Durban' date=' he was the only one who came out with a positive mindset.[/quote'] what abt ABDV - Not sure if he did in similar situation, but he will play attacking shots. And Boucher is due a good score, and he will attack too. But for that to happen, they'll need DaburAmla and Jacques to set a good platform. News is Jacques will bat at regular position as per commentators.
kabira Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 No Jacques can bat at 4..but won't. He may bat if is absolutely required as per cric info SA looks like will go for safety first approach..since they know Kallis is hampered and then there is Sehwag factor...
kabira Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Last time around we were in SA shoes...Our guys opted for safety first approach and Harris was all over us back then.
coffee_rules Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 what abt ABDV - Not sure if he did in similar situation' date=' but he will play attacking shots. And[b'] Boucher is due a good score, and he will attack too. But for that to happen, they'll need DaburAmla and Jacques to set a good platform. :woot:
fineleg Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 No Jacques can bat at 4..but won't. He may bat if is absolutely required as per cric info Cricinfo said that yesterday, but when Day 3 was getting over - commies mentioned that the latest news from SA dressing room is that Jacques will bat at his usual spot. Did anyone else hear that?
kabira Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 ^thats from cricinfo after the days 'play Amla had a disappointing Test in Durban but scored an aggressive 59 in the first innings at Newlands, before succumbing to a self-described "sugar rush". He is expected to adopt a more structured strategy in the second knock, especially because of the injury sustained to Jacques Kallis, who has a contusion near his rib and will only bat if necessary. That means Ashwell Prince will also come under the spotlight. He is renowned for his ability to perform under pressure and grind out runs when needed, although South Africa will not want to depend on that to put themselves in a position of advantage.
fineleg Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Whatever Sehwag gets plus 200. The Oracle of ICF has spoken :woot: That means we better get SA out for a cheap score, so we keep the chase close to 200.
coffee_rules Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Cricinfo said that yesterday, but when Day 3 was getting over - commies mentioned that the latest news from SA dressing room is that Jacques will bat at his usual spot. Did anyone else hear that? I think they said he "can" bat at #4 as per rules, not "will" bat at #4.
jf1gp_1 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I think they said he "can" bat at #4 as per rules' date=' not "will" bat at #4.[/quote'] i hope he bats at 4 ; no excuse from SA that kallis was injured .... once they lose
fineleg Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I think they said he "can" bat at #4 as per rules' date=' not "will" bat at #4.[/quote'] I knew he 'can' since it is injury that happened in the match. I thought I heard the commies say 'will bat at regular spot' meaning he is fit enough to do the job. Anyway, I hope he does not, and we can put more pressure on SA.
coffee_rules Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 i hope he bats at 4 ; no excuse from SA that kallis was injured .... once they lose I will take a win in any case, hook or crook, even if we get all close umpire decisions in our favor.
King Tendulkar Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I firmly believe we can chase 300 with ease. Anything under 250 and we have won
coffee_rules Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Ab toh gaya match haath se. Stupid Kallis and Boucher who was a walking wkt till now, screw India. India will play for a draw and lose match this in a heap.
Guest Gunner Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 We are thoroughly ****ed. It was a nice dream while it lasted.
