zen Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 What's needed to be done is have a B-league where BD, Ireland, Zim, etc play tests against each other on regular basis. The top side (or two) of that league can be given an opportunity to play a few series against the top 8 teams over a two year period. This also makes the teams within the B-league fight for the top spot and no team is guaranteed a regular test spot unless it is performing constantly
Zero_Unit Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I think Ireland have everything that could be expected of them over the last few years and have checked most of the boxes to get full ICC membership and the test status. Clearly Ireland is more competitive than Zimbabwe, which has Test status and has achieved much more than what B'desh did when they got the Test status. I mean B'desh got the Test status just for winning one game against Pak in 1999 world cup whereas Ireland has beaten Pak, Bangladesh, Eng over the last 2 world cups and also tied with Zim. And considering the talent Ireland has produced so far - O'Brien brothers, Ed Joyce, Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin, Dockerel etc. they would be quite competitive in Tests especially in English/Irish conditions. I hope they get the Test status soon as it will send the right message to rest of the associate nations that ICC is not an old boy's club and with improved performances, one could get the Test status. Also, Ireland getting the Test status should take care of "talent drain" as upcoming Irish players won't leave Ireland for Eng just so that they could play Test cricket. Hoping to see Ireland play Tett cricket soon I don't think it's time for Ireland to get their test status to be honest. Trent Jonson also said he wants a good test structure at home before pushing for the TEST status. And let's not blame B'desh for their test status. They didn't even have a infrastructure for test matches and BCCI is to be blamed here. If B'desh was given test status today then I guess most of us would agree that it's the right move but at that time money was in BCCI's mind! We don't want IRELND to make the same mistake as BCCI did with B'desh here.
Zero_Unit Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Bangbros present an interesting history. We made sure that they get rid of pakistanni tyranny and also pushed them to test status. Still the nation identifies itself with pakistan and their fans hate our cricket team. Interesting!!quite interesting!!! Sir, did you just have a brain fart while trying to write your comment? :finger: P.S i have quite a few bengladeshi and pakistani friends and majority of the bangladeshi supports INDIA so where you got your brain fart from is beyond me!
Mariyam Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Ireland have proven to be a good ODI side and a giant killer in WCs. Why does that translate into giving them test status? The larger question is, why should test status be granted to 'minnow' sides based on their performance in an ODI WC?
broken_wings Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 playing good cricket cannot be solemnly factor of getting Test Status. There are many things ICC needs to consider. Once kenya used to play better cricket than Bangladesh. But look where they are now. Rather giving Test Status, ICC should look into their own domestic structure, NOT English County Structure where most of the Irish players play. In addition, Irish Cricket board also need to ensure that they have got a proper pipeline system which will generate better and young cricketers. Today, Johnston rightly put their prospect of Test status. Johnston says Ireland not ready for Tests
SLICKR392 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Ireland should be considered for a Test status. They will do way better than BD or Zimb. Have been very, very impressive against Pakistan. @Hafeez - Please don't bring up how great and unlucky your bowling attack were.
superstar Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Have money to sustain itself. Too many passengers in the ICC board right now. If this fixing scandal affects BCCI sponsorships, it is going to tank world cricket.
sherpatenzig Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Beating up on Pakistan, a crap team does not qualify them for a test status. More relevant question should be if Test Status should be taken away from Pakistan.
Sandeep99 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 They don't even need to fix matches with Pakistan unlike some other teams to get Test status... I seriously don't understand what's wrong!
SLICKR392 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Beating up on Pakistan' date=' a crap team does not qualify them for a test status. More relevant question should be if Test Status should be taken away from Pakistan.[/quote'] :cantstop:
gaurav92 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Beating up on Pakistan' date=' a crap team does not qualify them for a test status. More relevant question should be if Test Status should be taken away from Pakistan.[/quote'] Great post :hysterical:
Haarkarjeetgaye Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 beating Pakistan isnt enough. got to beat Zimbabwe and Bangladesh too
ravishingravi Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 What more it needs to do ? Well small matter of being BCCI's b****h. Consider it done thereafter.
Sidhoni Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Its high time they get to play test cricket. Untill then they will be like England 'A' team.
saneindian Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Shun the white man's club and come over to the BCCI camp. They will not just get a test status but BCCI will send our team to Ireand for a test tour immediately.
FischerTal Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Ireland deserves test status more than zimbabwe and bangladesh
Texan Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Ireland completely deserves Test status. I can bet that if Zimbabwe or Banga Boys go to play 5-day matches there today on green tops, they will get beaten black and blue. Even India will struggle to beat Ireland in Ireland. They have got some quality seam bowlers and some decent batsmen.
Sidhoni Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 In the intercontinental cup, Ireland and Afghanistan have same no. of points, Ireland lead on run quotient
Sean Bradley Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Just coz they whipped paks back side in one of the games they deserve a test status ? I would say they deserve a test status cause they are better than baangalis !
