The cable dated August 20, 2009, originating from the US Embassy in New Delhi and released by whistleblower website WikiLeaks, stated that Chidambaram also commented "in passing, on the vast disparity between his native South and the rest of the country, with the South being the entrepreneurial and business hub of the nation." During the same discussion P Chidambaram, says the US diplomatic cable, also advised Roemer "to get to know opposition and regional party leaders, especially the chief ministers of Bihar, Punjab, and Orissa as they were particularly dynamic." Chidambaram also asked the US Ambassador to meet the "real people' and not just the politicians". The cable further said that Chidambaram commented on "the troubles being faced by the BJP. While quipping that the Congress party might take delight in the 'implosion' of the BJP, he cautioned that 'no Opposition is a curse' and could result in a 'complacent, or, even worse, arrogant,' ruling party." Another leaked cable has said the Ruias-led Essar Group, which has mining interests in Chhattisgarh, pays protection money to Maoists to safeguard its operations in the state, a claim dismissed as baseless by the conglomerate. "A senior representative from Essar, a major industrial company with large mining and steel-related facilities in Chhattisgarh, told Congenoff (Consul General Office) that the company pays the Maoists 'a significant amount' not to harm or interfere with their operations," the cable, dated January 11, 2010, originating from the US consulate in Mumbai and released by WikiLeaks said. "When the Maoists occasionally break this agreement and damage Essar property or threaten personnel, Essar sets different Maoist groups against each other to suppress the situation," it said.

Either do something about it or get out of the way. By the by there is absolutely nothing new about this. Every country has its own shares of plus and minus. Chinese wealth is concentrated in Eastern region, for example. Although Chinese Govt is trying to spread it all across instead of starting a East vs West. And certainly Chinese official wont be caught napping suggesting they would grow at twice the usual growth rate if....

Idiot. I hate to defend PC here, since his stock is worthless these day in my books, but I don't think mere growth rate matters, considering the calculation for Bihar is on such a low base. I think there is little doubt that without Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad, the country would be in doldrums. Kerala also is doing is very well. No doubting Bihar's growth, but as a general statement, I think it is fair.

Its the biggest con job of our times. Have you ever heard of anybody saying they support the Canadian cricket team? They all support India or Pakistan or West Indies or Kenya. Nobody ever supports Canada. eg: Ludhianvi, Rajeev, RahulRulezz,Celine Dion all support Indian cricket team. Have you ever heard of any Canadian? I haven't. They all are either Indians and other migrants or they are to be US citizens. Canada is not a country. It is a modern age substitute for Ellis Island. Everybody goes there with a view of eventually going to the US. Just a pits stop. And if you included UAE (West Kerala) in India, it wouldn't impact our growth rate positively. Those remittances wouldn't count then. :((

India's overall economy ratio to the world would hardly be different to that of Bihar's ratio to India's. Both hover around 3% (on GDP). A 12% growth of Bihar compare very favorable to India's overall growth rate, when both contribute 3% to overall bucket. I am not being dismissive of your argument about Bihar starting from scratch but just pointing out to overall scenario.
