Not sure of this yet because our complain with Bhajji was that he was becoming too defensive for someone who was one of our main strike bowlers, The only thing that Ashwin brings to the table right now is that he does not chicken out of pressure situations like PP overs etc but apart from that(Obviously an important aspect) they both are not that different. I would take a non-Legstump-darting Bhajji over Ashwin any day but for now Ashwin is our best option but still hasn't sealed his place IMHO

Jadeja is giving him some good competition atm. As long as they keep Harbhajan out of the team and play either Jadeja, Ashwin or Ojha. Im fine.

Can't wait to see how Rahul Sharma does. He looks a better prospect for the test side.
Right now Ojha looks the best Test option, given the fact that he is playing County cricket and performing decently. Rahul Sharma is too much of a rookie and we don't want him to be another Chawla or Mishra

:dontknow: how different you are really asking for? Vibhash posted Ashwin's 20 match stats, in Harbhajan's last 20 games he has 20 wickets at 40.5. It is pretty clear Ashwin has sealed his place, whether that is in partnership with Bhajji in the future is to be seen, but he has far more going for him than not being a chicken.

Another thing to be noted is that with the 2 new balls rule introduced its become harder for spinner to bowl since it takes nearly 35 overs to be old enough to trun often. So taking that into consideration he has done extremely well imo

Ashwin's biggest asset is the fact that he is rarely flustered when he is given some tap. He comes back and gets wickets more often than not. The only time i have seen him a bit flustered was when Eoin Morgan played an unbelievable reverse sweep against him in the T20 match in England.

does he have have the dart ball? btw, this guy has got some "balls" to be a powerplay specialist bowler as a spinner.
Anil Kumble also used to bowl in the first 15 overs in the 90's. BTW, for some reasons, I am reminded of Kumble whenever I see Ashwin bowling. I know its a very far-fetched comparision, but the fierceness in his attitude, and yet maintaining a calm exterior reminds me of AK.

SHould be a permanent fixture in the ODIs and deserves a test debut as well. Ojha and him should be our two spinners for WI tests while Bhajji plays domestic cricket to get his bowling back on track.

Ashwin-24.5 Swann-25.4 Ajmal-26.8 Great start to his career :hatsoff:
Wow Swann averaged 23.something before he came to India for this series. Ashwin was superb today. When the pacers were getting hammered all over the park, he came in and bowled some really nice tight overs.

Contrary to popular thought, he can actually flight the ball well in test cricket though he may not get prodigious turn. Cannot pass a verdict unless he plays a test match.
+1. He also needs to have the potential to turn the ball big sometimes.

Ashwin has a good head, I've seen him use the carrom ball and the one that turns square very rarely as a special delivery. I guess he'll be a regular fixture in the ODI from now on, he should get a chance in tests as well soon.

If yuvi comes back then dont need ashwin or Bhaji. Play jadeja and Yuvi as spinning all rounders, one as a bowling all rounder the other a batting all rounder. Jadeja has impressed me that much in eng and india that he is worth being in side just for his bowling. But in reality yes Ashwin has sealed place as premier spinner. Could he do it in tests?
