Lord Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 2 wickets left' date=' 3 runs req in 6 balls to WIN a test match...[/quote'] with the series already won 2-0 .....
Ram Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 2005 india 6-1 sri lanka 2006 pakistan 1-4 india 2006 india 5-1 england 2008 CB Series all before the IPL. Why stop at 2005? You might as well gone as far back in 2003-04, when we reached the WC final and then had that golden run with Chappell (remember, Irfan playing at no.3?) I never claimed we have been winning only since the IPL. Our ODI record has always been reasonable. But no team has ever DOMINATED in ODIs at home like we have in the last 2 years. Our record at at home in the same duration reads a ridiculous Played - 31, Won - 28, Lost - 3. Such total domination is unprecedented for us. Dont you think IPL has got at least something to do with it?
Pagalpanti Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 IPL obviously has helped players evolve, they are more confident and experienced in dealing with crunch situations.

Dont you think IPL has gotten at least something to do with it? no. and its not unprecedented because i just showed u instances of india dominating over a series. IPL had nothing to do with it. the main reasons: - dhoni becoming captain - gautam gambhir. run machine. wouldnt have made it if dhoni hadnt pushed for his selection - dravid and ganguly being thrown aside in favour of more modern ODI players like gambhir, raina etc. thank dhoni for this one too. - sehwag in 2008, 2009, 2010 is a much better odi batsman than he was in 2007, 2008, 2006, 2005. he used to be a waste of space in odis. - raina's return to the side in 2008 asia cup. he is averaging 40+ since his comeback. no other team has a player like him at number 6/7 - emergnce of quality players like virat kohli i dont think u want to credit sehwag, raina and gambhir's turnarounds, along with virat kohli';s emergence to the IPL. tendulkar being as good as ever and dhoni transforming into the greatest ever odi middle order batsman also has a lot to do with it. these guys arent products of the IPL. no other batting lineup has all 7 guys holding SRs above 80+. this battig lineup is a wrecking machine. india's IPL products in this time were guys like; - yusuf pathan (LOL) - ravi jadeja - manpreet gony - vijay kumar - murali vijay all failed players.
Number Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 IPL obviously has helped players evolve' date=' they are more confident and experienced in dealing with crunch situations.[/quote'] I feel that we had better players under pressure in the recent years. Most of the players who established themselves after 2003 were better clutch players. Yuvi, Gauti , MSD are quality. Kohli , Raina are getting that reputation also Rohit is work in progress. Hopefully Jadeja will also learn.

Dont you think IPL has got at least something to do with it? I'm not a 'hater' of IPL (I think in many ways, its better than intl. cricket) but there are some aspects where IPL has benefited the team and its mostly psychological: - Playing under big crowds and playing crunch matches - Playing with big internationals and learning from them - Taking the team over the line The beneficiaries of IPL seem to be guys like Ashwin, Raina, Jaddu and Kohli to some extent. Those are the 'hits' (somewhat), if you include the failures you have to include people like Yusuf Pathan, Paul Valthaty getting selected in the squad (!!!), Manpreet Gony, Saurabh Tiwary, etc etc. I think that if there was a high profile domestic competition with all Indian players forced to play and a few overseas ones, it'll have some benefits regardless of the format its played in. The problem is that it doesnt showcase actual talent like Rahane or Pujara. Thats why I'd prefer a franchise based domestic system with 8-10 teams for every format rather than the 325243642 ranji teams that exist aimlessly..

He had a great last IPL though. Manpreet Gony played only 2 matches for India on some flattest of the tracks in Pak and you have declared him flop. Yusuf already has 2 centuries at 7. How many Indian batsmen have scored 2 centuries at 7 in ODIs? He is not consistent but he is not there to be consistent. His work is to play aggressively. How do you say Saurabj Tiwary is a fail? He is just 22-23 and even did well in EPT in Australia and also has good domestic record. You have no idea.
ravishingravi Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Btw, to all the IPL haters (no need to name names, you know who you are), a quick question to you all; Do you or do you not see even a microscopic co-incidence between the fact that since IPL began in 2008, our ODI record, especially at home, has simply gone thru the roof? None to me. We had right players groomed through the decade i.e. before the IPL who matured during this period and one fine leader. Ofcourse being world champions provides amazing self belief. Have to mention the caveat," in home conditions" . I am sure IPL might have helped somewhat in terms of big hitting, but this ODI was certainly not symptomatic of IPL influence. It showed the fact that Sharma and Jadeja who have been kept out of the Indian side and had to slug it out in domestic cricket that has helped them no end. Not to mention both look hungry too. Again the caveat "in home conditions" and "against poor opposition" with all due respect to them But then again, as line in memento goes, people see what they want to. Maybe I too am prejudiced.
Stuge Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 :yay: We are just not batting powerhouse ..We are WORLD champs !!

The 5th ODI between India and West Indies is a classic example of why I think IPL has helped us have the home record in ODIs that weÃ×e had in the last 2 years. Just imagine the team that took the field for the 5th ODI did not have Sachin, Yuvraj, Dhoni and Sehwag all of them architects of our victorious WC campaign in their own ways. Yet, we won the match quite comfortably. Why, because IPL has helped produce an army of guys who maybe young at age and in terms of their experience at international level, but are all battle-hardened because of their time with their IPL team. A guy like Manoj Tiwary is a classic example of that. These guys know how play under pressure, which would have never happened unless IPL existed. An Indian team sans its leading batsmen would have never scored 270 on that track after being 80/3 in 20 overs in the pre-IPL era. But this is capable of it and routinely does it. And btw, to call Ravi Jadeja as a failed player is a bit of a joke really. He's probably our best spinner in the last 12-15 months that too on some really flat tracks, which is a really admirable feat. Same with Yusuf as well He may not be a consistent performer, but he has delivered some stellar performances which cannot be discounted, like the one against NZ in the last ODI of the series just before the WC. And you attribute India's resurgence in ODIs to Sehwag's new avatar in ODIs. Dont you think that for someone who struggled to find a feet in the shorter format for nearly 6 years, for him to turn it around in the last 2, his IPL experience had at least something to do it?
Sachin=GOD Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 The famed Batting Powerhouse needs to click right now otherwise the Australia series is gone.
