One of the worst tours ever....deserve to be put on the flight today.... but for one match.. total annihlation, massacaring of a** ra** of the Beggars..... comes after the WC cup last year inspite of toss cheating by Whinekara...

Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Although we are upset about it, we must understand that the two best teams on form have qualified for the three-match title showdown. Sri Lanka showed tremendous courage and hunger to win the game and a lot of credit must go to Mahela Jayawardene for showing fantastic captaincy skills under pressure. Having lost two of his main bowlers to injuries, Jayawardene handled his limited resources ably under pressure. It was also a reminder that you can come back strongly as skipper in the second stint. Sometimes, a break can help you go back and re-evaluate your various skills and come back a better player. The Indian selectors can emulate this example to bring the team back on the right path. Since the World Cup victory, India's fortunes have plummeted, and, for me, Indian cricket is at the crossroads. The selectors have a very important role to play now. Losses in a row India have lost eight Tests in a row — a record — and the selectors can't let this go unnoticed. They have retained almost 90% of the ODI side which went to Australia. I have a feeling they were forced to do that, considering India had an opportunity to play the finals. Wholesale changes at that time would have affected the morale of the team had it qualified. India have been exposed in all departments in the eight Tests they've played in England and Australia. It's time the selectors took stock of the situation. They will be committing a huge mistake by sweeping the issue under the carpet. If they do so, they will put more pressure on the new selection committee which will take charge in September. The selectors must also remember that this is a competitive world and if one doesn't perform, he has to make way for others. Everyone must understand that if there is non-performance, especially over a long period of time, individuals will have to be given a break, not only to give opportunities to fresh talent but also to allow non-performing players to go back and work on their game. Players must also be made to realise the urgency to perform day-in, day-out. Overseas image India will again play a few Test series at home where their performance will be much better, but it will not be enough to get back their heavily battered image overseas. The side should be ready to perform well in overseas condition. I would rather pick a player who might have a poor series at home but a good away Test series, because he will invariably perform at some stage on home soil. I think we have reached a stage when the players esp. the senior ones need to be awarded a medal only for their presence on the field. Considering some of their financial status and the moolah that they can earn elsewhere it requires great sacrifice and patriotism to play for India today.

Yes and no Prakash. 1999-2000 was rough yes but atleast the consolation was that Australia was the all dominating side of the time. And India were not touted as the best team in the world, or even amongst the top 3. This Australia team is perhaps the weakest after Alan Border's late 80s team (considering teams 1980 onwards) and Indian team was as good as any we have sent down under. And we failed gloriously :((:((

Really? Who said the Indian team was as good as any we have sent down under? The same team was drubbed 4-0 just two months earlier. This was one of the weakest indian team to go to Australia, on form - three aging seniors, one opener who whacks at everything without even a little brain, another who keeps fishing outside the off and so on. A team is decided to be be good based on its performance, and not based on past laurels and mountains of runs scored on flat beds.

1999-2000 tour was another annus horribilis but bearing in mind that weak Indian side and Australian side at its peak' date=' this tour may actually be worse.[/quote'] In 99 we had players like Devang Gandhi, S Ramesh, Jacob Martin and Kanitkar in the team. I am sure if we look at the bowlers, other than Srinath, Kumble and Prasad there would be more cr@ppy players. And given the fact that Aussie team was a pretty strong unit with likes of McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist, Waugh brothers, Martyn etc. we knew it would be tough. This is defo much worse and is probably one of the worst tours ever, if not the worst, in India history. What makes it even more difficult to digest is that we went through a similar humiliation in Eng just a few months back and the Eng tour was easily one of the worst ever for us, and to have a similar tour on the back of Eng one simply defies belief and boggles the mind. The board, selectors and the players all need to take the blame for it, specifically the board & selectors. What makes it harder is BCCI saying these things happen and there won't be any committee to determine what went wrong to ensure it never happens again, and also the fact that the BCCI thinks odis and tests at home is the same thing as an away Test :facepalm:
