It claims that in India towns and cities are often under attack by lone or groups of wild monkeys, and that these monkeys are never killed or captured due to their relation to a god named Hanuman. Apparently one method undertaken in Delhi to ward of the monkeys is to train special groups of langurs to act as a deterrent. A Monkey Response Force if you will. I have no idea if this is true or not and having recently seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes I am somewhat concerned. Can anyone more in the know on this subject fill me in so that I can sleep soundly once more?
maniac Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Don't know about training langurs to counter attack but it is true thatt hese wild monkeys cause a nuisance in a lot of areas especially the hilly ones.. Can't blame them though because we snatch their habitat for real-estate projects

True.The monkeys are also not harmed because it is against the law.Catching them is a specialist job and they have to be relocated also.(besides monkeys are so human like....how can anyone kill them :(() The langoos do not attack the monkeys...they are above the monkeys in the simian hierarchy.The monkeys move away from places that have longoors. We get a langoor walla who regularly takes rounds in our colony with his female langoor and baby langoor.She sits on the back carrier of the bicycle with her hand around the guys waist :--while the little one keeps running all over them....the baby is soooooo cute. Don't worry...unless you are a monkey...the langoors won't hurt you.:giggle:
