indian team spearheaded by tundler kumar dou...:weights:
I'm not sure any of these IPL performances can be considered seriously for getting selected for national team. Manpreet Gony and Sreenath Aravind are just a couple of examples. If he continues to perform well in IPL and take that form to India A tour or another season in Ranji trophy, then he will be a good contender.

We can only select what we have. Important is to identify best of what we have.
Problem is eventually we end up asking for the current bowlers head. Yesteray Agarkar. Today Vina Tomorrow it is Awana. Their performance duration is far too short to take them seriously. Umesh looks different. But being a genuine quick he is going to pick up injuries. One way or the other we don't have any bowler who looks like taking 300 wickets in Tests.

Those bowlers are getting rare not only in India but worldwide because of the amount of cricket being played nowadays. You cant have pace bowlers having long careers and picking 300 or 400 wickets anymore. We can only hope whoever gets into the team do their best as long as they can before they eventually pick up injuries.

One decent performance in an IPL game and already a prospect for Indian team ? :hmmm:
He has performed well in every form of domestic cricket.

At international level to be able to buy wickets in test's unless u r a McGrath or a left handed swing bowler' date=' u need pace around 140 to 145 k's at least, especially if u r on a shorter side,in t20 u can get wickets a bit easily as batters wanna score aggressively,in ODI'S and more so in test a strike bowler needs to have pace, 135 to 140 is not fast enough for a batter to force a mistake,a bowler bowling 140 to 146 k's, having control and if he can swing or seam he can make batters commit mistake.[/quote'] Ridiculous! I don't know what "unless u r a Mcgrath" means? Does it mean very accurate? Because that is useful for all bowlers, it is what all fast bowlers should strive to be... 135-140kph is quick enough for Test cricket. If it weren't, Umar Gul, Zaheer Khan, James Anderson, Vernon Philander, Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan, Ravi Rampaul would all be nothing!

Anderson is probably the better swing bowlers in the world and when bowling well he does bowl in 140's
LIES! 140kph is approximately equal to 87mph... R Harris when fit and bowling well also have seen him clock close to 150
A bowler's top speed is not relevant! How is a speed which is hit once in a series or in a tour important? The important speeds are the ones which are most common in spells that get wickets. Unless a bowler is getting wickets with slower balls (highly unlikely), we can infer this speed from looking at the speed of the wicket balls... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGrR9uiSyDY]Ryan Harris 6-47 3rd Test, Perth, 2010-11 Ashes Series - YouTube[/ame] EDIT: Actually, this is extended highlights of a spell 1. 137.5kph 2. 142.9kph (four) 3. 135.2kph 4. 145.4kph 5. 137.5kph 6. 135.5kph 7. 135.6kph 8. 135.1kph 9. 133.1kph 10. 132.0kph BTW, you posting a clip of a bowler taking wickets bowling over 140kph will do nothing to rebuke my main point which is that Test wickets can be taken (I could name a plethora of bowlers from the past) by a fast bowler, at a speed under 140kph! You don't have to be Mcgrath (or Vaas, or Pollock, or Ambrose, or Walsh or Philander) to do it either.

:nice: & Zaheer,Anderson,Philander are 130-135 most of the time still they are successful.

I am not sure what u r trying to prove by posting some random spells, I can post spells of Harris and Anderson bowling in 140's lol, normally fastest ball also equates to a bowler being in rhythm and his average speed being up,maybe in NZ OR VERY HELPFUL TRACKS A 135 BOWLER MIGHT GET SOME WICKETS , based on most wickets sub continental players bowl , a speed of 140 plus is a must, unless u r a McGrath or Zak, also Zaheer bowled much faster when at his best. Please base u post on argument u wanna make not try be condescending , I can do with patronizing lol

Just a 1 to 2 over 140+ spell can get a well settled world class batsman like Kallis Sachin Sehwag out- we saw that in australia - australian bowlers got Wickets even umesh got a lot when in rhythm

I have decided that I won't see an India international match on TV if we have trundlers like PK or VK playing - I will be shocked if selectors select PK and VK for T. 20 worlcup one day or tests for India now.....we have at least 2 dozen bowlers faster better than them. It show india in bad stead when India has these slow bowlers representing INDIA.

Awana, Dinda and Yadav and even Munaf have really shown up how crap VK and PK really are..but knowing our selectors, the two Kumars may end up getting selected for the T20 WC and the reast will be history.

Awana continues to impress this time against a strong batting line-up consisting of international players: Franklin, Tendu, Rohit, Pollard, Karthik, Bhajji 2 for 23 off 4 overs
