Just a matter of time before he steps up to it... best thing about him is his complete no compromise approach to winning games...

His problem is only with team selection which he can't go wrong with Indian side as there are not many too choose from anyway :cantstop: . He is better at defending scores compared to Dhoni who often let things drift before some bowler pulls things for him. He doesn't act early enough. Gauti constantly looks to slow things down.

I found Gambhir to be an aggressive and shrewd captain who could change his tactics on the spot. In a game he saw the pitch turning and brought in a slip and silly point rather than just sitting back and waiting for batsmen to make mistakes. He definitely deserves to be the vice-captain.

Sometimes you want to see that in your captain rather than see your captain ramble to the presentation and say the same oft-rehearsed words after another defeat. I would love to have Gambhir as vice-captain and give him a few series when Dhoni's rested to see what he can do. Gambhir generally raises his game when given the captaincy and looks like someone who really cares about the team and the results. As for his attitude it's a cultural thing. Most of the Delhi guys would be like Kohli & Gambhir who swear a lot. But it may not be such a bad thing. It's the results which count and Gambhir has been good based on what I've seen of him.

On a side-note, Gambhir's captaincy has come on a lot in recent weeks. He has led from the front on many occasions as well.

While Gambhir seems to be a poor choice for captain, as poor team results brings the worse of him as a captain. You can never have a captain who becomes worse when under pressure during losing situations.
Executioner Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 well, kohli hasnt been successful is simply because from his body language it doesnt seem like he is a captain, he looks more like a team player to me. Hardly I see him chatting with the bowler, or get the boys together to talk. Well ofcourse, you cant blame the entire team. In RCB there seems to be no teamwork. Its like gayle does it or DeVilliers does it, and what others do those things should be taken for granted. Gambhir has done well very well captain but shud stop criticizing the players when the team loses. A good captain should always back his players otherwise they would lose their confidence. The good thing ofcourse was that his team is winning handsomely. At the same time GG's task is made simpler because there is a big variety in his foreign players, youve got kallis, sakib, mccullum, lee, tendo all very well accomplished and also narine being in top notch. So he doesnt have too much to worry. Dhoni on the other hand has had a defensive mindset. Guys like bravo who shad bat higher up the order is turned into a finisher, morne morkel gets max 10 balls to play. Ravindra jadeja bats ahead of srikanth...id say the team management is also to be blamed. With the blunt attack Dhoni has there isnt much he can do but they can always compensate with their batting but it seems that they are always targetting the Par score, instead of targetting 15-20 runs more to give them a good chance

He's the only RCB player who put on a decent innings and came remotely close to winning it (along with some help from S. Tiwary). Dilshan and Gayle both lost it when they tried to go after the one dangerous bowler in an otherwise very weak bowling attack (except Mishra who was decent, but would have been smashed by Gayle/Dilshan). Mishra had a brilliant over where he took out AB and Agarwal. After that, it was pretty much Kohli and Tiwary on their own.

That's what makes this guy special. Gambhir, tactically may be far better, but when it comes to nerves, noone can ever match MSD in the Indian team. And to say that just because someone swears a lot makes him passionate, then guys like Sachin and Dravid were never passioante or what?
Number Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Too early to judge. His bowlers restricted DC to 138. Also most of the decisions are made by Vettori and management. Currently GG and MSD should captain the Indian side. Hope we have a few more established guys like Ashwin, Rohit by the time MSD leaves so that we have more options there.
