Maybe that's the reason the existence of Mumbai 'Indians' can be justified. He can settle all scores against NSW/Yorkshire etc as long as he wants to, no questions asked.

If you keep in the context that, in the last 4 years, we have lost 3 of our all time great test batsmen, having another moon-sized hole blown into the fabric of our cricket team if Sachin retires as well could be disastrous. Remember, it was not just teams like India, England and South Africa getting better than unseated Australia. A large part of their deterioration from sheer dominance for nearly a decade and a half to being just another good test team that they are today was due to some all-time greats retiring from the game as well. We have already lost two of our most reliable test batsmen within the last one year, if Sachin goes now too, then be prepared to face a long time in the wilderness. Especially now, the middle order is looking increasingly more vulnerable than it say about a year and a half ago, when we were at our dominating best. Both Gambhir and Sehwag have cooled off since their peaks, Pujara is still finding his feet after making a comeback, the no.6 spot is still up for grabs (who is it going to be? Raina? Rohit? Yuvraj?) and Dhoni the test batsmen has had some dangerous weaknesses exposed. If Sachin vacates the no.4 spot too, then that is a recipe for disaster. And for those who will never miss an opportunity to point out Sachin's troubles against the NZ quick Trent Boult in recently concluded test series, its important for you to know that Sachin's troubles against a left-armer is nothing new. As far back as 2001-02, West Indian leftie pacer Pedro Collins caused Sachin a myriad a problems when we toured the West Indies that year, repeatedly bowling him or having Sachin caught behind off his bowling. It was pretty much the same set of noises back the as well and we all know what happened since then. We need Sachin to be part of our test middle for at least another 2 years, so that he can nurse this fledgling middle order to good health. I think he should just call it quits on T20/ODI cricket and devote the rest of time/energy to 1) playing test cricket for India and b)representing his dear city of Mumbai in the IPL (if he wants to).

You are talking like he is scoring heaps of runs every series. It has already been heading towards a disaster. We are depending on two batsmen right now, Pujara and Kohli who bailed us out against NZ.

The last 3 away series we have played, Sachin has been our leading run-scorer in one of those and the 2nd leading run scorer in the other two. His combined average in those 3 series - 40.2, with two 100s and four 50s. Not bad for someone 'heading towards disaster'.

He averaged 35 on both these tours which is not what you want from a premier batsman. Regarding SA, most of our batsmen had played a good innings or two there. I am all for him to continue but only if he does well against England, otherwise, it is a just waste of a space where we could groom another youngster and build a new team.

Yes, they have been in bad form, but what have they done to warrant such name calling? Did Raina, Dhoni, Rohit etc set the world on fire in thise series? How are they not parasites then? You seem to be claiming that we have Rcihards and Lara waiting among batsmen and Waqar and Steyn among bowlers and Sachin and Zaheer are keeping them out.
