maniac Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 No it was well thought out....Look at the ball that got Bopara out.....was short....Even in the previous over they were trying to make him fall for it.....Umesh has a quicker short ball but can be a spray gun,Bhuvan doesnt have the pace....so in terms of skill to execute and experience,Ishant was the way to go. Keeper has the best seat in the house to judge a bowler,so Dhoni knew who was going to be the partnership breaker. Even Jogi was not an instinctive desicion...All 3 main bowlers Sree,RP,Irfan finished their quota and Bhajji chickened out,so he had to go for the next or only available option...It's another thing he lucked out thanks to an immortal Choke by Mis bah.

A lot of things happen due to sheer luck in cricket. Australia won 1999 WC by sheer luck. Would you believe a fielder like Gibbs dropping a dear dolly given by Steve Waugh?

It fails both tests and hence it was a stupid decision which worked. If results were the sole indicators of decision making, Ricky Ponting would be the BEST captain of the modern era - he's of course not. Same as Yadav? What exactly you mean there?

Would any day take a suposedly stupid decision that works than a brilliant one which fails. Also how do we know if it was only intuitive and that Dhoni hadn't thought through it? He did say the plan was for Ishant to bowl outside off and pack the off side field to start with, so there was a plan and field set for it-.

You are defense, inflexible, poor all those "negative" words when one is losing. But when one is winning, suddenly these same words change to a whole lot positive words. Critics get paid for it while many fans here use that to show how superior they are!

And if you captained a team, you would understand that also implies trust for teammates which is an important element of being a good captain.
