The Outsider Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Brian Lara. Massive fan of both, but Viv struggled against Australia, especially in the WI, never scored a test ton vs Aus in WI. Lara completely OWNED Aus in WI. To be fair, Richards only played two series against Australia in WI. He was in his last year of cricket in one of them and did score a century in the other. However, there is no denying that the kind of series Lara had in '99 is the stuff of dreams against one of the best bowling attacks ever.

saket123 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Again.. These kinds of comparisons don't make a lot of sense.. They were two entirely different kinds of batsmen.. If you look at the statistics of the two... Viv Richards was way past Brian Lara when it came to ODIs.. Viv Richards was a lot more entertaining and swashbuckling a batsman too. In Tests, they weren't that different either.. Lara being only marginally better IMO. I've watched both of them play.. Lara was no where close to having the clout that Richards did when Richards came on to bat.
