Reception of Jadeja's triple hundred and our thought process

He has played mostly as a lower order batsman in ODIs and T20s where he has to bat in the slog overs and score as much as he can. Not an ideal opportunity to see how good his technical skills or concentration levels are. He has proven he is good as far as Indian domestic cricket is concerned. Batting average of 48+ with 3 triple tons and bowling average of 27. It must guarantee a spot in ODIs in sub continent at least. But its important that he performs in A tours and in tough conditions in Ranji if he wants to be selected for tests.

As far a i know yuvraj singh scored few hundreds in FC Recently and averages 45 In First class cricket.Jadeja does not only lack in Technique but temperament also we all know how he handles pressure. His triple hundreds show he has good powers of concentration but i would really like him to score in A tours and against good ranji sides on good pitches before changing my mind.
Jadeja avg 49 in FC & it'll hike after this match, plus avgs 27 with the ball.

What's wrong with Chanderpaul and Smith's techniques? Smith has a minor technical fault of playing around his pads and has fallen to it on occasions as well but besides that he is technically very sound. Jadeja's technical fault is nothing minor like that. You say technique is not important - Gambhir's entire struggle is technical. When he was scoring runs he was not poking outside the off stump and now he is failing because of that technical problem. It's the same man and same temperament. Obviously, technique is not everything and you need other attributes to succeed as well but it is a very important part of being successful in test cricket. You can get away with some minor technical glitches but not with something as base as Jadeja's technique. EDIT: And I am sure if you remove Yuvraj's test runs there won't be much difference between his and Jadeja's FC record.
you n me r saying same thing.I didnt say technique isnt important, but it is not everything,Jadeja has shown penchant for big scores/and his technique is not all that bad.he has played decent innings wen he has had time to construct an innings e.g. 78 at Oval,57 v Aus at Guwahati,24* v SL at perth(short innings but we were under pressure chasing n he didnt look troubled on a Perth wicket) hes just 24,we need to give him chances to prove himself, cant just write him off on the basis on how pleasing he looks to the eye

If anything... Jaddu is a hardworking guy who came from not very popular state. People uses to call him malnourished but he worked hard to put in some pound. Appreciate under- dogs.. Imagine if he was from Delhi..

Yuvraj n Raina didnt even score runs in FC cricket, were picked based on ODI performances which is sheer stupidity. the likes of Chanderpaul,Smith have shown that you can score runs with supposedly poor techniques if u know how to manage n have the temperament.I'm sure you know of other names
This should answer you question: http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/594707.html I feel it's about getting in the right positions. Chanderpaul, albeit an ugly stance does so. It's not how he looks while the bowler is at his run-up but about how he plays the ball. And if you notice, he is mostly on top of the ball, with correct balance and at the right line. And so is with Smith but yes, he does play across the line a lot.

technique is overrated.hes making runs with same technique.thats all that matters
Technique is not over-rated, especially for the longer format of the game. A recent example is KP, where he concentrated in the nets on improving his defense. Rest is history and he took away the 2nd test from us. On the other hand, we have Dhoni with a shoddy technique. Do you see him performing in Tests. No.

Smith and Mukund have similar technical fault, both play with an angled bat. Smith's off drives become on drives because of that. It looks like he wanted play shot somewhere else and ball went somewhere else that is he is so succeptible against left armers swinging in or ball ccoming in from right handers, does not give full face of the bat to ball, always angled.

Should get a chance on the A tours to play the longer format. However his run scoring in FC cricket should not get him an entry into the ODI/T20 side as a lower order batsman and a spinner who could bowl a few overs. Even though he has hit many 6s and 4s during these triple 100s and scored very fast, he doesn't quite have the hitting abilities needed of a number 7 batsman yet.
Once again you are true to your moniker - "sane". The question of whether his technique is good or not should come after the 'A' tours as you rightly say. I don't see any reason for discussion at this point of time.

There are 2 aspects here: 1. Appreciating a rare cricketing feat in isolation, which certainly must be done because it is a terrific effort. 2. Clamoring for his inclusion in the national team on the basis of this triple hundred, which is rubbish because he had 2 triple hundreds before this one and was still crap. What's going to change with a third triple? For team selection a hundred on a tough track against good bowling would provide more insight.
agreed :two_thumbs_up:

I am not writing him off, but putting a caveat regarding reading too much into these triple hundreds. To convey my point more clearly for example I've never watched Jiwanjot bat, but the kind of tough runs he has been scoring this Ranji season mean more to me than this triple hundred by Jadeja if ever there comes a point where one of them has to be chosen for an A tour. And neither is it about looking pleasing to the eye, it's about fundamental technical flaws. Sure there have been batsmen who've had successful careers with minor technical flaws, but Jadeja has two pretty obvious flaws which might be difficult to overcome: 1. He is not good against short pitch bowling. It's not about hooking or pulling, but his feet get all tangled up against short pitch bowling, much like Raina. 2. His front foot defense is suspect. He does not have a big stride while defending on the front foot which makes him a leg before candidate as he won't be able to get his front foot outside the line of the off stump against quick bowling. He can certainly improve on these aspects as he is still young, but he should not be brought into the test team directly. He needs to go on A tours and play against visiting sides first and score.

Ditto. No ODIs/t20s. Just A tours.

agree.I think he can improve.I like him more coz he offers a decent bowling option as well.

:cantstop: I thought he did not have one.He always hangs back when facing fast bowlers in odis and t20s.

Why can't Raina' date=' Rohit etc score triple hundreds? Because clearly Jadeja is better than them, if not in terms of technique atleast in terms of results shown.[/quote'] Rohit has a better fc record than jadeja.
