Cricketics Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 We have champions trophy coming soon in England. We tour later this year to South Africa where we will be playing 7 odis. Following that, we are off to new zealand in feb-march of 2013 where we play about 5 odis. Then we are off to England in 2014 where we should be playing plenty of odi's too. The before world cup 2015, we are in a tri series with Australia and England in Australia(the venue for the world cup) few weeks before world cup. What a great way to be ready for the world cup. So many away tours and games on some good tracks will test us. Good practice for our bats and at the same time we can find the TRIO of our bowling which we will need in world cup.

Tridibans_16 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 For all those saying we will be hammered, well I genuinely feel that won't be the case. We are developing into a good ODI side even with our pathetic bowling. Last Eng tour, we lost 3-0 but most of the matches were pretty close with 1 tied game. I feel, Bhuv/ Shami as well as Ishant (if he can somehow cut down his short-wide stuff) can be quite handy in Aus conditions. Ashwin may not be that successful going by his recent form and his Aussie outing earlier. We need a couple of more spin options. Harmeet maybe? Sehwag is gone for good. Gambhir needs to go as well. No way he is going to survive on those pitches with his current technique. Our batting squad should be : Tiwary Rahane Pujara Kohli Dhoni Raina Yuvraj Chand

Neither of the three teams will play their full-strength line-up and risk injuries, crowd fatigue may also be an issue. In any case, I don't care about the WC. All I know is that I don't want India or Australia to win it - let someone else get a hold of the trophy for a chance - NZ winning it would be awesome and help the world game in general! I'd much rather take test match/series wins in the tours coming up - SA, NZ, Eng and Aus, and build on those. Along with the home series against Aus and WI of course.

The ranking is irrelevant at this point in time, even if we can somehow draw the Australian series 1-1 and go to SA (which is our next series) and come away with maybe a 1-2, those are positives and we can build on them for the entire decade. Forget about #1, it's never going to happen in the near future.

Forget about #1, it's never going to happen in the near future. I kinda agree with you but in any sports, ultimate glory is at the top of the format (tennis/ motorsport/ football). Why cricket should be any different? BTW my point is ODIs are the only format where we might win a big thing or two. In tests, we will win at home but not too sure overseas with this team.

We all saw how successful Sehwag was against Pakistan and how Gambhir played brilliantly against spin for the last couple of seasons.

panther Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Odi tracks are flat irrespective of where you play you may get the odd one with bounce or turn. Or it might be overcast which can help the fast bowlers.

Pagalpanti Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 If our batting holds up like it did during 2011 Eng ODI series, we might do well in CT given our bowling this time is much better with likes of Bhuvi/Shami and Yadav fit by then.
