Lord Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 I think its harsh calling Dhoni the worst captain of the lot. I dont think he is the best captain but he is not the worst either. You just cannot ignore 2 World cup wins and being number 1. While the 8-0 lingers, he is not the first indian captain to be blanked. read the title carefully
Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 So the chap with the most wins as captain in our cricketing history is the worst captain we ever had :giggle:
G_B_ Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 read the title carefully i still dont think he is the second worst captain. We were number 1 in test matches for 21 months which has never happened in our history before. Lets keep whitewashes in perspective, England have been whitewashed in the Ashes and Smith has been whitewashed as a captain v Australia at home. Things like that happen. Infact i do believe Smith has been whitewashed in Sri lanka in 2006 (or was that somebody else who was captaining at that time? not sure on this). At the very least the team has been white washed by sl in his general reign.
Marut Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 A world cup eliminator is just an odd game WOW An eliminator by definition carries a lot of luck. Anyone can be "eliminated" in an eliminator, better team with more luck on the day wins. Test cricket does not give you free lunches like eliminators. 8-0 whitewash has to be the worst ever debacle for an Indian fan, if he knows a thing or two about cricket.
Marut Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I think Dravid was worst' date=' we hardly won anything, his own form in both ODIs and Tests was all time low. He was responsible for Sachin's downward spiral. He denied 200 to Sachin, such a strong Indian team knocked out in WC2007 under his captaincy (Worst period in Indian Cricket). He was not popular with Media and Commercial Ad world.[/quote'] Dravid imo was one of the best captains. "He denied 200 to Sachin", what an argument to support your cause. Every point quoted here is incorrect. "He was not popular with Media and Commercial Ad world" is not even a cricketing argument.
Sidhoni Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 sidhoni's kill list Dumbbells, Junyfan, just a fan, L'Etranger, panther, Raghav_12, rkt.india, saneindian, SLICKR392 I don't care if someone is that dumb that a fixer and a guy who cheated his country is better for them over the guy who always gives his 100% for the country and tries his level best. Laaloo 1
Marut Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Dhoni leading here. I can't believe that he is rated lower than a cheater.

We are talking about captaincy. The cheating Azhar did was a different thing. Dhoni is the best ODI captain, but test he has very little clue. He is literally destroying our test cricket as a captain. He is taking us back to 70s.

In anycase that traitor should not be part of any such list irrespective of the 'clean chit' from the courts on the basis of shoddy handling of the case by BCCI lawyers and a weak criminal law.

don_corleone840 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 5 WORST CAPTAIN 1 Azhar 2 Dravid 3 Sachin 4 Ganguly 5 Kumble
putrevus Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Yup' date=' that 2-0 loss on greentops where matches hardly went to Day 3 and both teams struggled to put up 3 figure totals. Can't blame Ganguly for that though.[/quote'] I agree both team struggled but The batting unit never took any blame for those miserable losses. That was one of our best batting line up and they were supposed to be far superior batsmen in every aspect from Kiwis. Our so called golden generation batsmen were mentally very weak and rarely ever backed the weaker part of our team the bowling in away matches .
Crookbond Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 When was the last time you saw a captain throwing out the best bowler? I think Jayawardene did it with Rangana Herath in the World T20 final. :--D
Ultimate_Game Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I agree both team struggled but The batting unit never took any blame for those miserable losses. That was one of our best batting line up and they were supposed to be far superior batsmen in every aspect from Kiwis. Our so called golden generation batsmen were mentally very weak and rarely ever backed the weaker part of our team the bowling in away matches . That is exactly the reason why kiwis rolled out green-tops for the series. In fact occasionally it was difficult to separate pitch from the outfield. When you have such conditions, the gap between the batsmen, or batting lineups, is reduced considerably and batting becomes cr@pshoot. Kiwis banked on the fact that their seamers headed by Bond will make better use of conditions than Indian seamers and that's how it turned out. On a pitch giving equal chance to both batsmen and bowlers, Indian batsmen may have made a difference but on those pitches I can't really blame the batting lineup. ICC should have stepped in and investigated the pitches with the same zeal they reserve for sub-continental turning tracks. If Mumbai pitch in 2004 was bad, so was the pitch where both the teams were rolled out for under 100 in their respective 1st innings.
Marut Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 And by that logic intest cricket only best team wins regardless of captain and hence Dhoni can't be blamed and its team as a whole that is at fault Whereas in the World Cup captain has a huge influence and and thus Dravid has to share a large amount of blame Best team implies the best or at least a good captain. A captain is an essential component of that "best team" but not the only factor. Dhoni obviously takes the blame together with the non performers. Whereas the world cup was lost because we got knocked out in an eliminator. Which can happen to any team. In ODIs any team can beat any other team on its day, in test matches that is not true and the odds that a team like Bangladesh beating South Africa in a test match is very close to zero, but for a ODI match Bangladesh has a realistic chance( say 10%) of beating South Africa or any other team.
vvvslaxman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Dhoni leading here. I can't believe that he is rated lower than a cheater. Regardless of cheating he sucked balls as a captain. CLueless on the field. His whole record was on the basis of dug up pitches and Kumble a brainchild of Wadekar. A monkey could have captained a side and still won against those pathetic pommies and zimbabwe.

True, and India just had a solitary overseas win against Srilanka under Azhar, in 27 overseas matches. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63616.html
