Ashwin's batting in decline

Regression to the mean. His FC batting average is 36 so it was very unlikely he was going to sustain that low to mid 40s average at Test level. In the long term, if he can become a decent spinner away from home (not expecting him to run through sides but has to offer at least some threat and keep things tight otherwise) and average 25-30 with the bat, I will be happy.

He should bat at 9. He has never been a proper batsman. Just hit a good patch of form with the bat in the England series and the Aussie tour before that.
100 against WI.

No need of pressure. As long as his bowling is doing fine we should be thankful. We have to stop treating him like a specialist. He did hang around for considerable period.

 And in the WI series before the Aus tour and in the NZ series before the Eng series.

No one should really care. His primary job is to perform with the ball and not with the bat. Its a shame that in the last few test series, India relied on ashwin. Good that he is no longer needed because every other batsman have been just milking the Aussie bowlers

Now to think of it, this series is his first real lean run with the bat. :p His previous series averages with the bat have all been pretty good, especially for a number 8.

I wouldn't be too worried. We know he can bat. I hope he improves his bowling away from home... that would be the number one priority for him.
