Ultimate_Game
The funny thing is that pacers are not really troubling him at all that much. It's mostly the spinners :banghead: He has been found out by both. It's just that Tendulkar hasn't stayed in long enough to get out to pacers. You only have to look back at the series against NZ how pacers troubled him. Link to comment
Lord
Why so!? Gavaskar did' date=' Kumble did, Ganguly (sort of) did....[/quote'] because it means you are retiring when you can still contribute.in hindsight it may look bad,but at the 2011 WC point.everyone thought Sachin could contribute more,so it'd been stupid to retire Link to comment
Texan
The funny thing is that pacers are not really troubling him at all that much. It's mostly the spinners :banghead: Not quite true. In the recent series against NZ, he struggled against the pacers as well, getting comprehensively bowled. 34.5 Boult gets the Big Fish! Middle stump pushed back, full credit to the bowler here, it was exactly like the previous ball, landed on middle and off and nipped back in off the surface, Tendulkar was trapped at the crease and didn't have time to react as the ball skidded through and pegged back the middle stump, he crouched down after he was beaten 125/3 23.3 85.3 mph, wow, Bracewell has gone through the gate, he has been attacking the stumps mostly, pitched up, Sachin leaves gap between bat swing and pad, and Bracewell bursts through to strike middle, he was probably looking to hit it towards mid-on 80/4 34.4 86.0 mph, timber! Three innings out of three for Tendulkar, Southee brought this one in to the right-hander, the scrambled seam, Tendulkar was playing across the line and the ball clipped his pad and flattened the middle stump, Tendulkar was quite frustrated with himself, he raised his bat at the stumps and then suppressed his anger 152/3 Link to comment

He has batted very well against fast bowlers from the games I've watched but he's struggled horribly against spinners, I'll give you that. Link to comment
Texan
Sachin is at the point where he's just fighting the demons in his mind. The whole world knows that he is not as good as he was and perhaps does not even deserve a place in the team on current form. His reflexes are slowing. All sportsmen believe that they can play longer than other sportsmen. The men who accept reality, like Dravid, retire gracefully. Sachin, on the other hand, still thinks he can go on till eternity. Thing is it's clear he can no longer consistently play big knocks. You don't have a no. 4 in the lineup based o how good he looks. Tendulkar has now gone 21 tests since early 2011 without a 100 while averaging 30 or so. That's not good by any stretch of imagination. Even if Tendulkar is able to play a one-off blinder and maybe score a 100, what will it prove? 101st 100 is unlikely to convince his detractors and neither will it change things for the Indian team. At 40 you don't get out of form but get old. We have already gone through 0-8 and have dropped/retired likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman so why not make a clean break while we are at it. At least with a youngster you always have the hope he will mature and make a difference once he gains experience. With Tendulkar there's no such hope either. It's up to the selectors to finally make a tough call and hope they do so. Link to comment
fineleg
Question is did India miss a trick by being able to try out a new #4 in Indian conditions before the tough SA tour? If SRT had retired, maybe a Rayudu or Rahane or Tiwary or Kohli(#4) would have gotten a chance? It is tough for a "new #4" straight away in a SA tour? Link to comment

Not necessarily if you are really good and determined. Throwing youngsters at the deep end will make them battle hardened. This cotton wool approach is a short term solution. In the long run if you want to seperate men from boys throw them at deepend. Viru, Dravid, Gangu, Tendu all made their debut on foreign soil. Link to comment

G_B_
BCCI should schedule a series v BD in August etc and that should be Sachin's goodbye series. Link to comment

G_B_
yeah you can also give debuts to players on the fringe. Like a Rayadu and try out Mukund. also try out manoj tiwary Link to comment
Vilander
but i am wondering if SL would be better....because BD has spinners.. they could get SRT atm. So we should bring SL here and play say 2 test games.. that ought to be good fun.. Link to comment
Laaloo
SL has spinners as well herath would own him in current form Link to comment
G_B_
lets just call Zimbabwe they need more cricket anyways and we should probably give them a cut of the revenue. Link to comment

If i were a player i would definitely not mind making my debut in any country. People have succeeded before. No reason why we should think it won't work. Infact modern players get far more exposure than previous generation players. We have two debutants made centuries in South Africa against similar bowling attacks. Link to comment
