Austin 3:!6 Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 And that says it all. Whom are you trying to fool? The title in the OP clearly states - "Is Srinath the best Indian bowler?". Indian is the key word here and we are not comparing how he fares amongst bowlers from other countries. So tough for you to understand? :headshake:
special K Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 A fat Botham in his mid 30's was quicker then anything India have produced.

If this ordinary bunch had to play 50% of their cricket in India .... they would probably have averages over 38. Compared to them, Kapil, Srinath and Zaheer look much better.
I6MTW Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I actually think Chetan sharma was the fastest.

And they call themselves the founders of cricket.:winky: English wickets are not always super helpful, though the early summer always is. Kapil, Srinath and Zak are better than any English bowler since the 80s.
alexander Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Patriotism aside, since the 1980s (from 01/01/80 -) Willis and Gough are far superior to any Indian quick.
alexander Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 A fat Botham in his mid 30's was quicker then anything India have produced. If we are going purely on speed, then the likes of Malcolm, Greg Thomas, Flintoff, Finn et al are a yard up on any Indian bowler ever.
express bowling Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Willis played from 1971 to 84. He did not play in the last 30 years. During his playing days, things were much more pro seamers including bad protective gear and the subcontinent teams were not developed. So, he did not have to compete hard in the tough subcontinent conditions for pacers. He cannot really be compared to the Indian trio.
express bowling Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 If we are going purely on speed' date=' then the likes of Malcolm, Greg Thomas, Flintoff, Finn et al are a yard up on any Indian bowler ever.[/quote'] How ? Umesh Yadav has regularly bowled 140 to 150 k with a fastest of 152 k +. Varun Aaron has regularly bowled 140 to 150 k with a fastest of 153 k. Srinath was the second fastest bowler in the 1999 world cup , after Shoaib Akhtar. Fastest of 150 k. This was inspite of Srinath losing significant pace after his rotator cuff injury. He was much quicker before. This was the first time the speed guns were regularly used. Even after losing pace in his old days, Srinath clocked 150 k atleast twice. I don't see any old English pacer doing so. In his last year of international cricket, in the 2003 world cup, Srinath consistently clocked over 140 k, fastest of 145 k. Not bad for an old guy. Ishant Sharma bowls 140 to 150 k every alternate season. Fastest of 152 k. He drops to 130 k to 142 k the next season though. But this inconsistency in pace has been noticed in so many English seamers like Broad and Finn. Even Md. Shami is bowling 135 to 146 k consistently, which is similar to your fastest bowler these days. I am not aware of any English pacer who could bowl more than 140 to 150 k in the last 30 years. So , your statement is incorrect.
Muloghonto Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Willis got hammered by west indies, the best team of his era, dev dominated them. Last english bowler better than dwv was trueman Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2

special K Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Yet , no English seamer in the history of test cricket has taken 400 wickets. Nobody cares about these silly records. Once our players are over the hill we get rid, we don't keep them on just to break meaningless records. Too many stats geeks in India who care more about individual performance. Compare your win/loss ratio to England.

So they always had an advantage because they were a better team with same ball. India take advantage with a different ball. Have Dev ball with a duke ball at Viv, Greenidge and co. He'd be averaging 60 odd.
Muloghonto Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Dev averages 21 in west indies . Willis 30 plus. Both botham and willis shat the bed vs west indies Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2

For you information, Duke and SG balls are very similar to each other. Only Kookaburra is different than them.
