trundlerNO1
You don't need a ****ing guide on the wicket who btw is struggling to make runs. He can guide in the nets' date=' during practice etc IF he 'enjoys' doing it.[/quote'] The presence of Tendulkar can a huge difference in the dressing room and in the feild, it is philosophy, so even not scoring he can make difference. It up the performance of the team by 10% You can't say that for Rohit, Rahanne, and Tiwary Link to comment
Muloghonto
I don't think anyone except Kohli is going to outperform Sachin in South Africa. As for giving the kids a chance....no way. As i said earlier, kids have to prove themselves before they become eligible. Team India is not about 'learning curve' of a 21 year old just coz he has potential. And if anyone is going to replace Tendulkar, it should be Rayudu. Not yet another newbie. Link to comment

FischerTal
its still a shame that even a 40 year old out of form tendu is our best bet in SA :wall: Link to comment

FischerTal
I don't think he was a great bet in India against Australia.. he was the worst among the specialist batsmen. but on overseas tour to england and australia, he was our second best batsmen after dravid in england and kohli in australia Link to comment
vvvslaxman
but on overseas tour to england and australia' date=' he was our second best batsmen after dravid in england and kohli in australia[/quote'] But nowhere close what you get from top players like Amla. It was barely average. We cannot pick players based on "he is less worse" . On recent tours he kept getting bowled against New zealand. He was late on his shots. He is struggling against even ordinary spinners. Poking and prodding. Sure he might score a 50 or two. If we had extended the same rule 22 years back Tendulkar would have never made debut or Azharuddin would have never made debut. His form has rapidly deteriorated since the last SA tour. avge of 32 against Australia in 4 tests avge of 18.66 against England in 4 tests avge of 21.00 against NZ in 2 tests avge of 35.87 against OZ in 4 test ( seriously this is something we have to be proud of? because others have scored less?) avge of 43.12 against WI in 3 tests ( Even Ashwin made 100 there) avge of 34.12 against England in 4 tests (again mediocre average) 6 very average series on the trot. Yet somehow we have to depend on him? Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Tendulkar failed in ODIs also after world cup. Barring that "match winning"(for bangladesh) century he scored zilch. 315 runs in 10 matches including that 100. Link to comment

CSK Fan
To answer the OP, I have some options 1) A baboon with a stick? 2) Boycott's mom? 3) A million monkey's with a million typewriters writing an eulogy on Sachin? Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Thats why he retired from ODIs I guess? I was referring because he was not in any form in any format. He is just like how Jayasuriya was like few years back. Once in a while a good innings. Then disappear for several matches. Link to comment
Pagalpanti
We'll know after the A-tour. Sachin will play though, so no point discussing if anyone can do better than him. All we can hope is his experience helps the team if not his own batting itself. Never count him out though. Link to comment

rkt.india
Those players that played with Sachin against Australia have little experience outside Asia let alone SA condition. s Sachin ke experience ne India me kya ukhad liya. Could not play NZ pacers, could not play Australian Lyon. Link to comment
