M Vijay's misery in ODIs

I am not backing Vijay, but i guess it harsh to judge players on limited opportunities, he cldnt have done worse than Rohit Sharma had he played 80+ ODis, Vijay has just played 10 ODI's, English conditions demand player with good techniques and with Vijay doing well in test's recently, his job would be to maintain a stike rate around 65-70 for first 15 overs and unleash in the later half of the innings.

Wrong. Sehwag technique was poor' date= it was only that when he started to make runs, people termed it as unique. And when he isn't scoring, it's back to poor technique. Technique is a really a hindsight issue. A good technique does not guarantee runs, while similarly poor technique does not mean you will not score runs in limited formats. And Vijay having good or poor technique itself is very debatable, but we should leave our this technique debate for the above reasons. Dhawan is getting a large benefit of the doubt whereas Vijay is simply getting none. It's not fair at all.
http://www.sportskeeda.com/2012/10/01/virender-sehwag-in-a-freakish-league-of-his-own/ That is your opinion.....which you are entitled to do......however....there are plenty of people who will disagree with you..... Also, I asked you a question......what are Dhawan's technical deficiencies.....??

And doesn't that answer what I said. It's all opinion and perception and therefore leave out the technique debate. There are many opinions about a player's techniques and really there is no right or wrong technique. A wrong technique if it can get you runs, is a good technique indeed.

Lol, how conveniently you have included 2 IPL seasons. Why can't we offer that type of evidence for Vijay? Yet, it's back to the same question, why using IPL at the first place?:giggle:
we are going on current form. So let us compare the last 1 season. for the record, for the past 3 seasons Dhawan has better ipl numbers than vijay overall dhawan has much better ipl numbers than Vijay......look at the links i have posted.

That's where you shoot yourself in the foot.....Mooli hasn't been getting enough runs in ODIs......that too in home conditions.....he did well in the Australia Tests and deserves his chances in Test cricket......but I doubt he will ever make it in ODIs.......

This is not IPL anymore. You can leave out your IPL stats.

Lol, didn't we all say the exact same thing (he is not good enough) when Murli was selected in India test squad and yet, he performed good and got the highest runs against Australia. Seems like many didn't learn and want to make the same mistake. And on the technique issue, I guess you never seen Chanderpaul batting? It's all about chances and both Dhawan AND Vijay deserves it. Not just Dhawan.

Worst opening pair in the comp. Dhawan is the only one who gives some hope. The backup opener is Nohit so the less said the better. I wish we had Rahane.

He was so amazing in oz series tests. That i would back him and at least give him 3 more games to show something IPl has shown he does have gears and up it. I am backing him and dhawan. Want to give them a run as opening pair in odis and tests

so VVS laxman is an average player u mean
I didn't really mean or refer to VVS in my post :winky: but since your question is specific to VVS then yes IMO he was a very very avg LOI player for various reasons (most of which have already been highlighted by other posters above). I was just talking about Dravid and his ability to adapt and excel across various formats (sign of a true great all-round batter IMO). But on this topic of mooli, he has done absolutely nothing to show his adaptability thus far

Good analysis about M Vijay OP. he is purely here based on IPL performance. It is a disturbing trend... 11 ODIs and below 18 batting average have been more than enough to seal the fate of cricketers... He has been indeed given a long rope. This CT tourney should be his very last chance.. and if he averages below 43 or so.. he should be kicked out and never included in the national side again.

Sehwag's technique was unique.....not poor.....he had incredible hand eye co-ordination to compensate for his lack of footwork......the fact that you think that Sehwag's technique was poor goes to show how silly your line of thinking is.......Mooli will always be nothng but a smack average player.....I would be more than happy to be proven wrong though.... Regarding Dhawan.....what are his technical shortcomings??
For a second forget he is Tamil, and Imagine Murali is from Mumbai...you would then see that he needs a fair run.. Its understandable your hate for him being Tamil. But let it go.

Fair enough. Long ago in a distant land.....there was a cricketer called Mridhul Vijaykar from Mumbai........who was a smack average ODI player......He performed well against Australia in a test series in 2013 and rightfully deserved an opportunity to play in the next test series against South Africa......but Vijaykar's technique was faulty......Vijaykar also couldn't dance to save his life..... PS: Stop showing your petty mindedness by accusing me of having regional bias.....
