If he had had a busy schedule then fair enough. Rest him, manage his work load. Toaylly agree at times needs to miss an odi series or games. BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE. Had long lay off and needs to play and get overs and his belt. Nothing better then playing for country in limited overs to get in to groove. Plus he could be vital component for our world cup defence in Aus. Crazy not to play him so he gits in to grrove for tests and also gets to learn and improve more in limited overs cricket plus also gets more exposure to interantional cricket.

By way of comparision Steyn has played 70=odd ODIs in 8 years since his ODI debut. That is the way forward for out and out pacemen to ensure longevity.

First of all, RSA has M.Morkel, Lange etc etc who all can hit 145+ at will .. whereas if we rest U.Yadav, all we are left with are 128km/hr bowlers... Plus going by your logic, a message need to sent to U.Yadav that he is just rested to use him for Test matches unlike now where it is pretty damn clear that he is dropped...

^Look who knows what the selectors reasoning is but the way I see it I dont think calling this him being rested is the right term. Especially if he plays for CZ in duleep trophy where he may well bowl more overs than he would playing for India in the ODIS. certainly longer spells. The point is asking him to focus more on longer format cricket where he will be most effective. He was carted around by Chand and co a few days ago I shudder to think what Watson and Finch will do. As for the Saffies More important than the pace they bowl at is that Morkel for one is a very good ODI bowler, a better one than Steyn. The selectors clearly believe that right now that holds true for Shami and Vinay K. They have played the same number of ODIs 26 Vinay has 30 wickets at 35 and 5.5 RPO Umesh has 29 at 41 average and 6.01 RPO I think he should play ODI cricket - as KT rightly says he will be an asset in a WC in Aus, but limit the ODIs he plays especially at home. Are we going to tour SA? he should play ODIs there I would say. Its a hard one to call.

Pace in odis is an asset particularly in big matches.I would not change a winning combination and allowed yadav a series against aus as he has had some good performances against them .Lets see how unadkat,vinay fare against aus.

i think Yadav has lost pace from his 138-142 and is now bowling 135-140 which is still a good 5 k faster than our other frontline bolwers and only 10ks slower than other test sides frontline bowlers. I am deeply satisfied with this move by which India again truely becomes the trundler country that it is... India = trundlers... :) 125-130k is Indian speed. India will trundle and bat badly against short pitch bowling in the next WC...thus doing badly in the only sport that the whole country plays and the only sport non popular enough for India to do well. He has not lost pace. It depends on what frame of mind he is. If he is bowling right line and length an din rhythm, he will be bowling quick without hesitation 140 plus, but once he starts spraying the ball, he tries to bowl within himself around 135-140 to be more accurate.

Great news dropping Yadav. We have one fast bowler in the whole country. And I mean ONE BOWLER!!!! Next odi world cup will be on fast pitches in aus. So what do we do??? Yes we drop the fast bowler and bring in the trundlers. Long live vinay kumar!!! No we dont say yes Yadav you are fast, we need you, we will back you. We see the talent and pace. We understand you are learning and will have ups and downs in odis. But we we will back you as fast bowlers are essential to any great team. No we drop him. Message to Yadav. Dont bowl fast mate, you will go for runs. Focus on accuracy. Yadav says ok and sacrificies pace. Instead of backing him to bowl fast and get it right, to have pace and accuracy. You guys realize bowlers don't have machines that measure clock speed attached to them when they bowl don't you? Since fast bowling also depends on physical capability , stamina there are times they can't push beyond certain point. THey might think they are bowling fast But the clock speed might show otherwise. So i am not sure if bowler is super conscious about fine tuning their speed on the go to gain control. Only in case of slower balls they are very conscious.

I think Unadkat and Shami have earned selections in the ODI team. However, Yadav is certainly a better option than Ishant. I like to think that an ODI bowler should either be accurate (Vinay, B Kumar) or wicket-taking (Yadav) but certainly not neither (Ishant)! Of course, ideally, an ODI bowler will be both accurate and wicket-taking like Mcgrath...but we don't have anyone like that at the moment.

@ KT I agree totally that we do everything in our powers to discourage quick men. See, guys like Suyal and Shukla are not even in the zonal or A teams whereas pacers like Basant Mohanty and Imtiaz, bowling at 115 k ,are in. Medium pacers succeed in international cricket only if a) They are highly skilled. OR b) They are really tall, get steep bounce and have great control. Also, no good pace attack has more than one medium pacer in their line up. In our one day side against WI A team, our selectors picked PK, Irfan and Fallah ... all medium pacers. Our selectors are not bothered about the pace of our pacers at all. Ours is the only selection committee to do so. No wonder we have had the weakest bowling attack in the history of the game.
