Vilander Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Not once have we missed the Sehwag-Gauti duo ever since these two started opening. Did well in England , then in WI and now at home as well. Phenomenal record as an opening pair so far. Lots of 100+ partnerships, some 50+ as well. Both doing well individually. Also IMO Rohit has silently booked himself a Test debut vs WI in the 1st test. Cant see how he can be ignored now. debut at what position ? may i ask. :--D

He did not get timing and gaps right initially but he did not get out playing a rash shot which ensured they had wickets in hand in last 20 overs and if you have wickets in hand in last 20 overs becomes a T20 situation with one batting PP and 4 fielder outside the circle rule. If we had lost wickets early both trying to attack, we would ave struggled like the first match at Pune. Such a start gives license to Kohli to attack.

In the first match, the real technique of our batsman got exposed, and it was he who had handled all the fast bowling stuff.

Chasing such big targets one batsman cannot win you matches. It needs a collective effort and 2-3 big scores.

Dhoni's post match commentary: I think its something we need to think about (about the fact that so many high run chases have been achieved of late). Is 350 the new 280, 290 or 300? With the new bowlers they are mostly getting smashed. Even the fast bowlers are bowling with their third man up and fine leg up. Not sure where its going but if we are chasing like this it is not going to be good for the long-term health of the game. Only seeing boundaries and sixes for seven hours? We knew a bit of dew will come later, and now it is slightly easy as we can break down the game at intervals
