Austin 3:!6 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Kolkata: Sachin Tendulkar is reportedly 'unhappy' with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials' attempts to go overboard with their celebrations for his 199th Test match in his farewell series against the West Indies starting here from Wednesday. There were contradictory statements from two joint secretaries of CAB with Sujan Mukherjee admitting that the maestro indeed was not amused with all the arrangements while the other joint secretary Subir Ganguly said that everything was under control. As Tendulkar was the first to step down from the team bus this morning, confetti were burst near the gate, while 80 schoolchildren wearing T-shirts with the Mumbai batsman's photo and 199 written on the back, lined up till the dressing room to greet the senior most cricketer. If that was not enough, the CAB tried to do a Madame Tussauds erecting a life-like wax figure of Tendulkar next to the dressing room entrance but the finesse was missing in the statue with the face not exactly resembling the icon. According to sources, Tendulkar reportedly said he's not bigger than the sport and it's not him only there are 14 other players who are part of the Indian squad. "I too heard that Tendulkar was upset with the confetti burst and other things. He also cancelled his visit to a photo exhibition at the Bhowanipore Tent," senior joint secretary Mukherjee told PTI. It is learnt that the CAB officials later did some damage control as Tendulkar came and gave a photo-op near the wax statue and praised the wax craftsman Susanta Ray of Asansol. "Sachin and everyone else in the team was happy with the grand arrangements," the other joint secretary Ganguly, said. Vijay.Sharma Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 As it is the guy plays under enormous pressure every time. CAB are making it almost impossible for him to concentrate on cricket and enjoy his last couple of games. Very shameful
bulbul Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 the CAB tried to do a Madame Tussauds erecting a life-like wax figure of Tendulkar next to the dressing room entrance but the finesse was missing in the statue with the face not exactly resembling the icon. According to sources,
bulbul Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 No wonder he is upset :haha: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournament/west-indies-in-india-2013/top-stories/Focussed-Sachin-Tendulkar-upset-with-CAB-going-overboard/articleshow/25221630.cms
saneindian Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Imagine after all these elaborate preparations Sachin doesn't score much! There's every chance of that happening, not that the performance in these two tests will have any impact on the greatness of the man. Hoping though that we get to see 2 back to back 100s.
bulbul Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I don't think what he scores will really going to matter.
saneindian Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Of course it wont, but short innings from him would be a major damp squib
gaurav92 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 It will obviously not matter how much he scores. But if he scores, it will be icing on the cake.
Jersey #10 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 ^ What icing on the cake? There is no space for anymore icing on the cake. He just has to show up... the score or the outcome of the tests won't matter at all. This is like an exhibition to :hail: his highness.
Vilander Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 No wonder he is upset :haha: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournament/west-indies-in-india-2013/top-stories/Focussed-Sachin-Tendulkar-upset-with-CAB-going-overboard/articleshow/25221630.cms looks like piyush chawla
Ram Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 As much as the multitude of Sachin fans would want to him to continue to play forever, it is totally understandable why the the man chose to quit now. It is HARD to be Sachin - really REALLY hard – when there’s an abundance of fame/power hungry individuals hungry to capitalize on his profile. We first dramatized his 100th 100 to the point where it turned from a moment of celebration to a period of incredible stress for him. I am sure the media fabricated frenzy over his 100th 100 played a large part in his decision to quit the now. Now, even when he wants to leave, he is not being allowed to exit in peace and quiet.
nevada Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 The only way he could have exited quietly is if he retired with immediate effect. No cricket association is going to let go of the opportunity to milk his presence for one last time.
Sachinism Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Honestly this is all getting exhaustively embarrassing
Yoda-esque Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Trust the Calcuttans to up the ante :nice:
asterix Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Why upset? Allow CAB to hunt glory... Especially when you chose a series to retire instead of retiring at once...
jalebi_bhai Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Why upset? Allow CAB to hunt glory... Especially when you chose a series to retire instead of retiring at once... +1 Things didn't go so over the top when Dravid or Laxman retired........they had a few felicitations and that was it......Sachin, I'm sure, would've known that people would go over-board......
fineleg Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Best thing would have been for srt to have told sandeep patil or rather sandeep may have told srt to retire possibly. Whatever it is - come to an agreement, play the two tests quietly ans AFTER MUMBAI - announce the retirement to immediate effect. Atleast 50% of this crappy CAB and MCA tamashas would have been cut short
fineleg Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Dont pre-announce retirement since this is exactly how shameless netas and people will milk it if legends pre-announce
asterix Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Dont pre-announce retirement since this is exactly how shameless netas and people will milk it if legends pre-announce To be fair to Tendu, BCCI arranged and announced the "retirement series", so that he retires against a lesser opponent...
