vvvslaxman Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I hope he doesn't suffer the same fate as Trescothick. Trott has been a consistent' date=' great player for England over the past 4 years. Hope to see him in the India-England series next year.[/quote'] May be he got some issues earlier. This intense criticism of him in the press by all sundries tipped him over the edge.
GoldenSun Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 May be he got some issues earlier. This intense criticism of him in the press by all sundries tipped him over the edge. It goes to show that In the end, We are all humans. Cricketers aren't superhuman beings who are immune to stress. Whether it be school, university, or work, we all can relate to each other through struggles. I feel the English press should have layed off of him unless he fails in the 2nd Test. He was just struggling to score from the home season and all players g through bad patches in their careers. According to Cricinfo, it seems he was struggling with stress-related problems for awhile now. Also this is not related to the story, but he had some drinking problems prior to 2009.
GoldenSun Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I am believing Trott's version of his medical illness just like I trusted Yuvi when he disclosed that he is suffering from Cancer, instead of playing mindreader. I don't see any reason why Trott has to lie especially while doing something as difficult in admitting that you are suffering from a mental illness. Touche. In my opinion, it takes a lot of guts to come out and admit, that you have a huge stress related illness or depression in a crucial time like this.

I don't see any reason why Trott has to lie especially while doing something as difficult in admitting that you are suffering from a mental illness. Most of us are not disputing that at all.He is suffering from mental illness and hope he gets better and come back healthy. my comment was about you saying some people were bitter over England beating India. I don't think that is true at all, timing of his revelation might have led to those comments rather than people not being sympathetic towards him.
King Tendulkar Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Also this is not related to the story, but he had some drinking problems prior to 2009. where did you hear that?
ravishingravi Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 This could very well be the end of his career. Can't help but think he has just crumbled under pressure.
GoldenSun Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 where did you hear that? England batsman Jonathan Trott has said that his career might have never taken off if he hadn't decided to cut down on his drinking. "I used to go nuts and it affected the image people had of me," Trott said in an interview with the Cricketer. "It used to cloud my judgement, not just that night, but for days afterwards." Trott, 30, has been prolific for England since his international debut in 2009. He currently has Test and one-day averages of 62.23 and 52.44 respectively, making him one of the most successful batsmen going around, but admitted his drinking could have become an issue if he hadn't nipped it in the bud. "I still have the occasional beer or glass of wine but, when it comes to nights out, you probably won't find me around them. It can be quite tough but the guys in the team understand. In the past I'd have been at the front of the queue [for a drink]. But I honestly don't think I'd be sitting here today if I did still drink." Trott is currently a certainty in the England Test line-up, though his inability to score at a brisk pace is held against him in one-day debates. "It's something I'm working on with Andy [Flower] and Graham [Gooch]," said Trott, who has a strike-rate of 78.40 in the ODI format. "It's about weighing up the best option. Sometimes I err on the side of caution too much." http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/story/523273.html This is part of the reason why I believe he is telling the truth about his stress. He has had these psychological battles in the past.
ravishingravi Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Jonathan Trott returns home with stress related ilness Exactly. It's like saying Sachin pretended to have tennis elbow or Yuvi just lied about having cancer to avoid playing a few matches or explaining away bad form. Mental illnesses are just as bad , or even worse than having a physical ailment. It Trott wanted to skip the series, he could have just as well asked the team management to drop him. But admitting that he faced a stress related illness clouds his entire career. Okay not justifying the ones who question his illness. But by the same token did u personally diagnose him ? All we have is his word and some might but it and some won't. Simple as that. He is under extreme pressure and not everyone deals with it well. Not everyone is Steve Waugh or Sachin Tendulkar. But KT asked a valid question. Would he have left had he scored a 50 or 100 in first game. Now the argument that he wouldn't have scored is hard to buy given that he was systematically worked out. He was suspect against short balls coming into the series. It is not as if he had a breakdown like Trescothick and walked out. So let's stop parading as defenders of disease which nobody is questioning. Under the circumstances it is logical to ask questions.
VRV Singh Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 He is always so intense at the crease (the same excruciating routine every ball) wonder if that has taken its toll and played a part. Brisbane 2nd innings certainly looked like he lost the plot
King Tendulkar Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Although yes I do believe that if he had got a ton in last match he would not have gone home. Make of that what you will!
Detonator Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Trott chickened out?? Well, it's kinda funny to post that but it's even more funny to think that an international gets "scared" of a bowler. Trott scored 2 good 50's against SA attack, whom are certainly more scarier than current aussie attack.
Number Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 He is always so intense at the crease (the same excruciating routine every ball) wonder if that has taken its toll and played a part. Brisbane 2nd innings certainly looked like he lost the plot While fielding on the fence he looked quite cheerful in the first innings. Good on him if he feels he is not mentally ready to cope with all this.
zep1706 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Gabba always has pace on it. It was flat but had pace and bounce Perth will be very fast Next test is on drop in pitch, will be slow apparently. Aussies apparently thinking of leaving more grass on it to juice it up That will work against them. They are worse than Indians when it comes to playing swing. I'll be very surprised if they beat England in Adelaide. The best they can hope for is to prepare a road and come out with a draw and then make a fast wicket in Perth.
zep1706 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 It's wrong to assume that Trott just chickened out. I hate his batting style but wish him the best to recover from this.

That was a sarcastic comment, which is why I wrote See, everyone can be a mindreader on the internet :winky:

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot you are the doctor who signs off on all cricketer's medical reports and are speaking from personal experience. I said I trust him just like I trusted Yuvi. Did you personally diagnose his cancer or see the biopsy results before believing in Yuvi's story? I trust him, He has no reason to feign a much larger problem which affects his entire life to hide a cricketing lack of form which is a relatively minor issue in the larger scheme of things. It's not like England haven't been in pressure before. They lost to SA, they lost to Pakistan and its not like they have always dominated Australia in the ashes. The lack of form and intense media criticism after the first test might very well been the triggers which pushed him over the edge but there were posters who suggested that he made up the whole thing to avoid facing Australia and Mitchell Johnson
Old guy Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 you people have no idea how hard this illness can be.. this is not first time in history some one flopped in test match and trott is very tough guy and would not run away just because of this..even suresh raina wont . some times high pressure triggers it even more and its better to just work on this illness rather than ignoring it..
NameGoesHere Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 you people have no idea how hard this illness can be.. ...... Precisely. Some really classless people in this thread.
Precambrian Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Weak, see if he had this earlier then he should not have toured at all. This is really outing the team at jeopardy. Akin to playing with injury.
