Precambrian Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I really wish I could also take stress related temporary retirement from my job during the peak period, yet keep my contract and full pay.. No offence, depression is a real disease but it's not something you recognise waking up one day. Honestly the guy chickened out. Not making fun of him but thats the truth. Otherwise we might have to deify and sympathise with soldiers who desert a war in adversity and betray their kind. Nah sorry I am not that new school for that.
Magneto Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Trotted his way back Will come back stronger :agree:
NameGoesHere Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 .. No offence' date=' depression is a real disease but it's not something you recognise waking up one day..[/quote'] Not sure why this is part of your argument, because Trott's condition was apparently known to management. And actually it can happen exactly like that- you wake up one day to recognize that the syptoms you had all amount to depression. You can wake up unable to get out of bed. I don't think you understand the nature of depression. What?
Precambrian Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Exactly. It's like saying Sachin pretended to have tennis elbow or Yuvi just lied about having cancer to avoid playing a few matches or explaining away bad form. Mental illnesses are just as bad , or even worse than having a physical ailment. It Trott wanted to skip the series, he could have just as well asked the team management to drop him. But admitting that he faced a stress related illness clouds his entire career. Face palm.
Magneto Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 you people have no idea how hard this illness can be.. this is not first time in history some one flopped in test match and trott is very tough guy and would not run away just because of this..even suresh raina wont . some times high pressure triggers it even more and its better to just work on this illness rather than ignoring it.. +1. Easy to say 'weak character blah blah', without knowing what the guy maybe going through. It is always smarter to fight another day, rather than getting into the field unwillingly.

I don't think you understand the nature of depression. What? Been there experienced that. Was a acute depression patient 5 years back. Have attempted suicide twice. Nah not bragging but the way to deal with it is not running get away, but just battle it. Easier said than done, but that's what is termed as courage. Depression is not a physical illness or injury which might happen just on a fine morning. Instead it's something you know is coming from a mile away, and one which you deal with in a professional way. If Trott was troubled to the extent he cannot carry on his duties and job, that sounds like pretty acute and should have been diagnosed earlier. In other words he shouldn't have made himself available at all. Clinical depression is a disease and has to be dealt with in the prescribed fashion. Sorry but if Trott managed to play the first test with such acute depression, then he needs a reality check and all those psychologists need a new job.

Ok so you know about depression; I've suffered from it as well, but not to the extent you have. What stuns me is your response to it. If Trott were to stop doing his job, then by the same logic anyone who suffers from this illness should also stop doing theirs, no? I should stop going to work on the chance that I might break down and so on. In my experience depression has to be managed. That is what they were doing for a while, if the reports are to be believed. It became too much for him. He may or may not play again. That's about it. Why we should confuse this with bravery, courage, etc I fail to understand.
Deleted_User_1 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Maybe' date=' they are the only ones who are coming forward with the real reason. And other players don't go public.[/quote'] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Mental illness is still a taboo in this 21st century....Shame on the human race for making it that way! :((
chota_prakash Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Some of you who are making fun or laughing it off should be ashamed of yourselves. The day it happens to you maybe then you will realise because a lot of us suffer some kind of stress related illness during our lives but have no idea we are suffering from it.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 This is not the best way to end the career. Not sure what Trott is going through, I hope he get well soon and come back with a bang.
coffee_rules Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 ^Trescothichick's f-i-l fell down a ladder, and hence he had to cut short his visit , probably an ultimatum from HQ!
G_B_ Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 hmm i think this might be the end of Trott as an international player. Should play in the countries.
vvvslaxman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 http://www.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013-14/content/story/692537.html Reading this article, it looks like he has innate fear of handling failures. I think he looks like mentally stressed out. If this is what triggered his depression i suspect there will be more in line to join him from this side. Anyone with a bit of weak mind can be a victim such gruel preparation for each series. If you look at various promising careers that ended prematurely it could be mostly mental. Not necessarily stress related. But lack of motivation, lack of drive, fear of failure that leads to poor motivation etc etc. This is one of the reason why long successful careers should be viewed with utmost respect. No wonder DHoni has so much gray hair at the age of 30 lol.
Blue-no1 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Lack of Sun/sunny weather and lack of P2P contacts/relations does lead to lot of depression in western nations. It is really possible Trotty is suffering from mental illness and the fear of failure is real with MJ delivering thunderbolts. I am sure there are other English/Saf players in the team who are secretly jealous of Trotty
Deleted_User_1 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Idiots who are making fun of this obviously know nothing about stress related illnesses, anxiety and depression. I hope you guys suffer from it acutely, go on the verge of suicide and then come tell us on this forum how it feels. Typical desi ignorance. Keep it up!!! No wonder mental illness is still such a taboo in India in the 21st century. UNFECKINGBELIEVABLE!!!

rkt.india Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I am believing Trott's version of his medical illness just like I trusted Yuvi when he disclosed that he is suffering from Cancer, instead of playing mindreader. I don't see any reason why Trott has to lie especially while doing something as difficult in admitting that you are suffering from a mental illness. Mental illness can also be because of the pressure he is under. There is always a reason behind any sickness and the pressure of international cricket is one.
