MCcricket Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Lessons learnt from SA tour I don't think overall any one can deny our team did better then expected, everyone knew our batters were talented but due to the short tour and schedule acclimatization was a problem, our batters exceeded expectations but it is the captaincy and bowling which was weak and cost us this series. For ODI WELL YUVI ESPECIALLY AND RAINA NEED TO BE LEFT OUT , Raina maybe deserves a chance but Yuvi is clearly out of form and maybe time too, Bhuvi has looked lackluster for some time now and if he is not bowling well then he and Ishant need to be left out and as our batters have shown talent can overcome the experience hurdle same way a good bowler with pace can do better then a experienced trundle, Pujara, Aaron, Pankaj, Pandey need to come in for ODI, Suyal maybe a wild card if he is fit and bowling with pace I would certainly prefer over Ishant For tests, Zaheer, Ishant need to be dumped for Aaron, Pankaj, Bhuvi maybe for Pandey, Dhoni's captaincy has improved from being worse to being better then worse but still costs us game Iam not sure if any changes will happen in the next two years, Ihope he doesn't destroy the careers of Shami, Aaron, Umesh in the meanwhile we are already 0-9 with his captaincy despite our brilliant batting we might go further down, India's only hope is a turning track or a green track where hacks like Ishant and Zak can trundle their way to opposition batting unit.
MCcricket Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Right from Ackerman, Jackman and Wessels who was the most sane and neutral commentators in the series with Dravid have pointed out the same thing, India can hold their head high especially the batters, we did not get the results because the inability of our bowlers to pick 20 wickets so it is simple, why did we not get anything out of the track that Sa did, because we bowled at 125 to 132 and did not hit deck, SA bowled with intensity and bowled with pace and hit the deck, Shami was not used properly by Dhoni, captaincy is a big issue and no one wants to talk about it, also Zak is over the hill and like a drunk boxer useless and he cannot comeback from here, Ishant will never learn and takes his place for granted, he could crank it up to 140 and try harder but did not, clearly these two need to be pushed out and maybe selectors need to groom and look for A GOOD LEGGIE AS THIS WILL TAKE AWAY THE PITCH FACTOR FOR SPINMNERS TO AN EXTENT. IF PANKAJ IS NOT SELECTED THIS TIME HE HAS THE RIGHT TO GO TO BCCI HQ AND TAKE A SHOT GUN WITH HIM, WHAT ELSE HE HAS TO DO TO BE SELECTED, HOPE PATIL SHOWS SOME GUTS AS HE DID FOR BATTERS AND PICK A SIDE WHICH IS LOOKING FORWARD NOT FULL OF USELESS BOWLERS, ALSO ASK QUESTIONS WHY WAS UMESH A PASSENGER WHERE ZAK AND Ishant couldn't deliver

eternalhope Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Where is the talent first of all. If these bowlers cannot take wickets at the first class level what are their chances at the Intl level. Taking wickets is an art and just bowling fast is not really going to help. Even most of those mentioned cannot bowl consistently quick, they might have an effort ball in the 140's. I don't post much here, but mentioned I guess more than an year ago that Shami is ready for international cricket, and the longer format will suit him better than the short format. A standout bowler cannot be ignored for long though even with the Indian system, which is so flawed. I don't understand why it took them so long to blood him. Pankaj and Umesh are exceptions. Pankaj knows how to set up batsmen and get wickets, bowls at a decent pace and is very tall. Why he is getting ignored is a mystery to me? Umesh by far the best potential fast bowler we have should have been groomed better. That sort of a talent is a rarity and that is where I blame the team management. Other than these three, I don't see much talent. We might throw a lot of names, they might be quick, but I doubt their wicket taking capability, including Aaron, who I feel will be a real good fit for the shorter formats though. My dark horse picks in the long run - Bumrah and Warrier. They should be watched closely.

Aaron was out due to injury and has made a good comeback taking wickets at good s/r, ave, Pandey, Pankaj, Suyal have the best s/r and ave in first class cricket having played more then couple of seasons so people talking about this no option thing open ur eyes lol, Shami a newbie was our best bowler by far compared to the wasted or talentless Zak and Ishant , says a lot. Bowlers can be picked based on performance ie ave, s/r pace for int cricket, or like Cummings, Pattinson who were picked based on promise and hadn't played much first class cricket, if that has to be done then even Shukla comes into the picture, selectors and ,Dhoni, Fletcher lack a vision and plan to overcome our team shortcomings especially abroad where spinners are not effective, unless u r a leggie or a freak spinner or an experienced one like Swann was, well even Ajmal did better then our spinners.
eternalhope Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Jadeja - will come good as a spinner, believe me. Give him the long rope and he will be a world class spinner in a couple of years. Pandey - needs to add atleast 5k, I have seen him bowl, impressed with the movement he gets, but to succeed at the next level he needs to add that extra yard in speed. Suyal -might be good, but if he cannot get into his Ranji team, what are his chances? Aaron - does not have great stats at the first class level, does have good stats in the shorter format and for now should be limited to that till he improves. Shukla- I feel has the best action among the young pacers to generate consistent pace, but his stats are very poor. May be the BCCI should have some special mentoring and monitoring program for the few bowlers we have who can clock above 140kph, but blooding them directly to the national team, I don't thinks so.

I have seen Pandey bowling in Domestic around 135 k and if we go by that he will ave 135 to 138 k once selected and that with his height and movement makes him a far better option then Zak, Ishant, please check Aarons stats for this season and you will see he is averaging around 20's, Australia had the issue which Suyal has with bad selections in their domestic sides, they still pick those players, Suyals place is being used by useless trundlers, Narwal, Nehra to is one and they are doing fine because of Roshanara which is a bad track for batters, Gambhir looks like another Dhoni n terms of bowlers. Ganguly, Shastri,Pringle and many who have seen Shami, Pandey, Pankaj, Suyal, Shukla have mentioned they should be drafted in and just on merit alone other then Shukla who does not have a good record also due to his injury issues in the past these bowlers deserve a go. Jadeja has taken wickets at what cost though, he cannot win you games , maximum he can do is a supporting job, his s/r and ave sucked in last game and batting was even worse, I see Ashwin as a better option once he gets to adjust his bowling on these tracks and his batting is really good, better then Dhoni, and other established batters.
eternalhope Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Pandey's fastest would be 135 from what I have seen. Aaron's average is due to his economy as he concedes less runs, but wickets column does not inspire confidence, thats why I want him more in the ODI setup before graduating to the tests. Regarding Suyal- I have seen the indian system from close quarters and know how it works and how genuine talent is lost at the lower levels. I have seen so many talented cricketers going to selection trials and asked to bowl about six balls and bat three balls. It is ridiculous system in India man. There is no way we can produce bowlers with raw pace. I know Suyal has been hand picked by TA Sekher for the Daredevils from Uttarakhand and he must be a good talent to be noticed, but I think that alone is not enough in the end.
Texan Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 could have, should have, would have... if only, urgghhhh.... It was a deserving result. Our bowlers are not good enough to get 20 wickets in a Test match. We do not deserve to win if we can't take 20 wickets. END OF STORY!
Texan Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 It could have been 5-0 for india if BCCI made it a 5 test series and Steyn and Kallis contracted pneumonia and Morkel was eaten by a rampaging bear and Faf du Plessis decided he wanted a career making rap music instead and if AB de Villiers and Philander eloped to become South Africa's first interracial gay couple. India was REALLY close. Unlucky that those things didn't happen. Still wouldn't be 5-0. Quinton de Kock would have saved the day for SA. Kyle Abbott and Marchant de Lange would have taken the bowling honors.

veer Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hmmm. I see bunch of individuals trying to prove their points individually rather than hunting them in groups.. Even when Pujara, Kohli, Rahane were playing, they were playing individually...
Detonator Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Dhoni's interference ? :giggle: Waiting for the comments "Dhoni is the cheif selector and Sandeep patil is his benami selector. " :hysterical:
Cricketics Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hmmm. I see bunch of individuals trying to prove their points individually rather than hunting them in groups.. Even when Pujara, Kohli, Rahane were playing, they were playing individually... I don't think so. I mean you can never tell that. ' I remember Kohli being pi$$ed at himself after Pujara got run out and said in the presentation that he got Pujara run out otherwise they both were looking good together. I am sure they have talked a lot together when batting together. Especially Pujara and Kohli.
rkt.india Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I know Suyal has been hand picked by TA Sekher for the Daredevils from Uttarakhand and he must be a good talent to be noticed' date=' but I think that alone is not enough in the end.[/quote'] You are clueless. Daredevils never picked Suyal. He played for MI and was picked by Madan Lal when he came from Uttarakhand to Delhi and played for his academy.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 India's knocks were better because they faced a better bowling attack. SA apart from 1st innings of 1st test weren't that troubled by indian pacers. Gotta give credit to kallis, made a century even when jadeja was troubling. Wished rahane got a 100 though. Still, all important knocks
