I blame Dhoni and bowling for all the mess.This moron has be kicked out from captaincy other wise Indian team will never win anything overseas period. Should be stripped of captaincy from Test as well as T20 format will let him continue till 2015 after that give the captaincy to Virat.

Fans and experts both were quick to proclaim that India had found another Sehwag. Since then, it has been a downhill journey with scores reading 23, 33, 13, 15, 29, 19 and 0. To be fair to him, Dhawan's overall figures are not all that bleak. He has scored 319 runs at an average of 39.87 from eight Test innings so far. But take away the 187, and his average falls to a lowly 18.87. Comparatively speaking, his performance abroad has been worse. In the five innings he has played on foreign soil, he has scored a total of 76 runs, at an average of 15.2. The way he has given his wicket away has been worrying his fans and cricket experts alike. In his second Test against West Indies in Kolkata, he was bowled trying to play a spinner without moving his feet. The next match saw him getting out attempting a slog sweep, a shot that does not feature among the best ones for a Test match. What follows is a string of soft dismissals - mistimed pulls, prods to short balls outside the off stump and manic attempts to hit his way out of trouble. His dismissal on Friday followed the pattern. Chasing a massive score of 503, the opener fell on the second ball of the innings without troubling the scorers. Trent Boult bowled short of length into the pads. All he needed to do at that stage was defend it with soft hands. Instead he made a clumsy, hard handed attempt to turn it towards midwicket. All he managed was a simple catch to Kane Williamson at gully. Experts still hold that Dhawan has a lot of natural talent, it is his temperament that is questionable. Sunil Gavaskar writes this in a column in Daily Mail: "Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu can achieve a lot more if only they can combine talent and temperament." Former captain Mohammad Azharuddin echoes the sentiment, "I had observed Shikhar's problem with short ball when he played for India in the Champions Trophy in England. He doesn't leave the rising deliveries and has a tendency to awkwardly fend at it which is wrong." With his repeated failures, many are wondering if Dhawan is a one-match wonder and if it is time to look back at other options, Gautam Gambhir for example, to open the innings for India.

At least from batting perspective we did not "cave in" to SA's super attack of Steyn, Morkel and Philander. Can we at least do equal or bit better in NZ against Southee, Wagner and Boult, Anderson? I mean - surely Steyn+Morkel+Phil >> this NZ attack. Our batsmen should do better against NZ, but at the moment, does not appear so. We did good in SA series (Tests), and it felt good that our batsmen (Vijay, Chepu, Kholi, 'batsman'-Ashwin, Rahane) did well, we felt proud that our batsmen withstood the super SA attack, so hoping it does not disappear so soon. Cricket has it own mind. Doing well against SA is no immunity against NZ. Each test is different, you win or lose based on how you perform in that test. If we were to be playing lengthy series (like five tests each against SA and NZ) you can predict the outcome of the NZ tour based on SA tour some what, but you can't predict much based on two tests in SA. On the SA tour also, Indian batting seemed to depend heavily on Kohli and Pujara and India got rolled over once these two failed. Rahane scored a lot of runs in SA, but he did look suspect against bounce and wasn't as comfortable as Kohli or Pujara.

Over the years especially India always bungled up the first test except the last series. Simon Doull once ran through us. Also they were a bit complacent here.

He got a start but failed to convert which has always been a problem with him and Indian openers in overseas conditions. I remember Akash Chopra doing the same thing. He would bat 60 balls for 20 runs and then get out. Only Sehwag used to score big as an opener but his style was quite different and he used to attack right from the go. Gambhir was decent for a while.

Cricketics Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Not really, South Africa, albeit much stronger test nation with better bowling attack, doesn't really mean would be more competitive than NZ when we play them at their home. NZ bowlers at home are really good as they have showed recently. Still India has gotten back the moment after Rohit-Rahane p'ship, but NZ at home again will come out to be too good. Also, recent heroics of some of their bats have made NZ a really good side at home. The delivery which got Kohli got out to was as good as a delivery you can get.

Gambhir got carried away after 2011 great knock in the final after that highest paid player in IPL he thought if he could lead KKR he can be the captain of Indian team as well while his form was going down rather than working on his weakness he was giving statement after statement of how he wants to lead and him and Viru are great batting pair. Was poor against England/Pakistan in the home series was dropped rightly.

They play as a unit more than other teams. it does not matter how well they play as unit, they are a bad team that is made to look better in odis and now in tests by indian captain by his moronic tactics and team selections. winning odd odi matches here and there or doing well in one off test match is what you expect from NZ and punch above their weight in world events. what Dhoni has done is he transformed Indian team into team of real puss*ies of 1990s who the moment they stepped out of Indian shores looked lost and scared Indians so far have been dominated in every game they have played and it is so hard to do it even if you try willingly because by default you should win a match here and there against an inferior team.
