Australia's 2013 tour of India exposed their frailty against spin and brought into public glare various rifts in the team. Four players, including Shane Watson, were banned for a Test match by former coach Mickey Arthur after they had failed to submit a presentation asked for by the team management. Cricket Australia responded by sacking Arthur days ahead of the Ashes in England four months back, paving the way for Darren Lehmann to take over and despite the 0-3 defeat, several Australian cricketers claimed a better atmosphere in the dressing-room while Clarke hinted the margin of defeat did not reflect the marked improvement his team had made. "We kept believing in ourselves and continued to work hard as a team on our game. Losing 0-4 in India was the lowest for us as a cricket team and we realised we needed to do a few things differently. "It could not get worse and it was important not to lose out on self belief and the motivation to do well. We played much better than the 0-3 results showed in the Ashes in England and on a couple of occasions were close to winning key Test matches. It was at times like these that you need to have favour," Clarke told the Economic Times. Despite the upheavals in India and England, Clarke continued to be among the runs, scoring a century in each country before slamming two in Australia's 5-0 whitewash over England Down Under. He said he was happy he could lead from the front and gave a further insight on how Australian cricket leaders think. "In Australia we first select the eleven members of the team and only then do we select the captain. You first have to make the team on the strength of your performances and I am glad I was able to do so as a batsman. "It is always a good feeling to be able to contribute to the team and especially when you are the captain it is important to lead from the front. As a batsman I had a very important job to score runs for my team and that's what I always tried to do. Scoring runs as a batsman helped .," said Clarke. Like his teammate David Warner, Clarke insisted the whitewash was just the start of Australia's ascent towards the number one Test team in the world. Their job is far from over, with a taxing tour of South Africa coming up next month. "I have always claimed that we need to get back to the pole position in the world Test rankings and we still have a lot of work left to do. Yes we have played very well against England and have won 5-0 and deserve every bit of the enjoyment but that doesn't mean the mission has been accomplished," he said.

carnish Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 0-4 ... Hell, the have a record of 0-8 in India out of last 10 games played ... 0-9 if you count the loss in Mumbai 2004. Shameful record. To their credit, India's record down under is practically the same and hence they can save face.

And then he (kaptaan) selects his first-class and bijiness class partners first and then economy-class friends and acquaintances And selectors will select sons n daughters and then ppl from their region and oppose others

Both Harris and Johnson didn't play the Tests, and were the best 2 bowlers. The batting of course would still probably collapse, but I'd expect Rogers to grit out a few more runs. Clarke and Smith performed OK last time. Hence, I'd expect the 3-1 result

Hence, I'd expect the 3-1 result[/quote'] Johnson and Harris or not, I don't expect the Aussies to take 20 wickets against India in India on any venue, except maybe Nagpur circa 2004 or Dharmasala currently. Explosive pace without pitching it full and getting it to swing- both conventional and reverse- means absolutely nada in India. Johnson bowled short & short of length to bounce the English out last series. That length usually means you get deposited into the stands for 4s and 6s even by Dhoni, nevermind Pujaras or Kohlis of the world. I still see the current Aussie teams losing 4-0 in a 4 test series in India. Our bowling attack is better, since Shami & Zak are better in Indian conditions than Ishant and Bhuvi.
