I think he's become complacent after taking bucket full of wickets against Windies and NZ and Aussies at home, all weak players of spin... He needs to improve on spinless tracks too. He is good at home, he is poor away (poor is an understatement 1/379 bowlers have no place in the side on current form) on all evidence so far. The thing is very few Indian spinners (since the spin quartet retired) have succeed outside the SC, and Ashwin is no exception to that rule. Harbhajan was definitely much better than Ashwin during his early tours.

Too many CSKItes on this board :headshake: Ashwin was promptly dropped from tests. They didn't make mistake there. In one dayers he deserves boot. Rohit and Ishant both had very very long rope compared to Ashwin. Ashwin had one poor test promptly dropped. But Ishant has been having such horrendous foreign tours despite having helpful conditions.

Yes - all he bowls is straight! On a serious note - we likely don't have any spinners waiting in the wing - and if any will fall by the wayside as soon as they hit the international circuit.

Apart from SA (who were poor players of spin back then) Bhajji's record on spin unfriendly tracks is pretty mediocre in tests but ok in ODIs - In tests, Bhajji averages 73 in Australia, 50 in England, 34 in SA, averages 39 away overall - nothing to take pride here. And this is one of our best spinners outside the SC since 1990 - Kumble has a slightly better test record away because he kind of made up the lapses during the last few years, but Kumble was equally ineffective in the 90s. During the 90s, India could not win a single away test because of this. Our spinners, for the most part, suck outside SC - let us admit it. Ashwin is holding on to that legacy. Our expectations from India has grown, so we are quick to attack him these days, but in the 90s we kept playing the same spinners away inspite of not winning any matches.

SA were already 6 for 100 by then. Match was won by Zak and Sreesanth. He contributed well but no way he won the match for us.

His replacement, Ravindra Jadeja, made an immediate impact, taking a six for, albeit in a losing cause. Ashwin's misery away from home has continued in New Zealand and over the last five ODIs India have played in South Africa and New Zealand so far, the Chennai offie has sent down 46 overs and conceded 271 runs, taking a solitary wicket. "It's simple. Ashwin lacks the required deception to trouble international batsmen. Deception is a quality that should worry your opposition. If Ashwin is coming round the wicket to a right-hander, then automatically you are removing leg before decision out of equation. Which means your mindset is negative. You are only trying to stop the flow of runs and not get wickets. That's not acceptable," Prasanna said. Prasanna insisted Ashwin has been successful only on spin-friendly tracks in India and struggles outside home. The legendary spinner suggested India recall Harbhajan Singh for ODIs. The 33-year-old Punjab off-spinner played the last of his 229 ODIs back in 2011. "If I am not wrong, Ashwin I believe got 95-96 of his Test wickets (95 out of 104) at home. And even in those wickets, a bulk of it against West Indies, who didn't have quality players against spin bowling. The only team that came with a lot of homework was England and Ashwin hardly looked effective against them", he said. "During our times, myself, Bishan (Bedi) and Chandra won matches for India on foreign conditions irrespective of help from track," Prasanna said. "I was watching Harbhajan's bowling during Ranji Trophy semi-final against Karnataka. I wasn't really impressed with two wickets. In a Ranji match, he should be able to run through the sides. "Having said that I would pick Harbhajan ahead of Ashwin in ODIs as he is quicker through the air and bowls flatter which will restrict runs. Ashwin is neither being able to check runs nor take wickets," he explained.

His around the wicket strategy was one of the main causes of us losing the series against England. He went around against every batsman, be it a RHB of an LHB. The pause shows how stupid the guy is without any game plans. He looked decent enough in the 2nd ODI when he was bowling his usual off spin without any varities and minutes later he switched to around the wicket and starts pausing like a knucklehead. When a guy brought this up on Twitter, his reply was that he has got more experience than him and he knows what he is doing. Arrogant idiot.

Which means your mindset is negative I thought for an offspinner on non spinning tracks best way to get LBW to right hander is go round the wicket and get it straighten, if he bowl over the wicket the impact will always be outside the offstump, I dont know what hell is Prassana talking about.

Whatever he is talking, he could be right as he has 49 caps playing for India. Probably in overseas going around the wicket is pointless as the ball might slide through the off stump rather than coming back in.
