Just needs to work on deliveries directed at his ribs and outside off stump. We need him to either open the innings or bat at 4. Rahane is a good option for tests but I don't think he can handle the pressure of chasing and scoring at a high run rate.

Because we had good batsmen in ODIs, we take it for granted and think anyone can do the job. It will be very hard to replace Sachin, Yuvraj, Sehwag etc. Gambhir is still young and has been scoring well in FC. He should be back as his experience also counts and can be very good for us in the middle overs.
Switchblade Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Gauti is a proven performer just a matter of time before he is back at that time it was the right call to drop him he will be needed for next years WC as the batting order does not look promising sadly I think he will replace Ajinkya Rahane rather than Nohit Sharma who's class and tailunt has tortured us for 7 years.

And both came in tandem. Barely few of you having been following him to make baseless comments such as he still pokes. He very rarely did that in the County and only once or twice during his 150 in Ranji. Kuch bhi...

What India needs are players who will perform today and for the next 10 years (Kohli, Pujara), not quick fixes. The golden generations of Australia, Windies, even India, weren't built overnight. Gambhir was part of a very special Indian team, now it's time to move on.

He got lot of runs and at the same time got out too. People actually got so used to say that even when he used to hit genuine edge, people start brining that poke crap up again. He still got good 4 years left in him I believe and we need him in this odi side for sure. Even in test side soon

The fact is, if you look at his knocks in NZ and his daddy ton against England in '08, he used to play that shot down the third man. Did that in NZ as well and the 100 in CB series the last time around. The highlights are on YouTube. His poor form and that shot din't get along really well and hence turned ugly and he started following the delivery that were barely off. He was overdoing the shot/poke, which has toned down now considerbly and sometimes never does it in a good long (100 balls) innings. He is a clutch player and a must in WC.

Even in test side soon I was his biggest fan during his golden run (when I thought he was on form the worlds best batsmen) and even then, during his period of best form- the poke was his main downfall. IIRC, even in our historic 387 chase vs England where he made an excellent start- he got out to the poke. But I agree, If he shows a consistent return to form, humbles up and loses his stubborn galacticoe attitude then he possibly could do well in our top order
