Since Dec 5 2013 (1st SA ODI) our bowling has let us down and cost us in every match: In SA ODIs and NZ ODIs all scores above 250, nearing or above 300. Too much pressure on batsmen = we lose. In Tests, apart from the Joburg 1st innings we have been impotent and unable to take 10 wickets in SA. That cost us the Joburg match, turned it into a draw and allowed SA to walk with a win in Durban. In NZ Tests, because of shami and jadeja did we fight back hard and got them out for 100 odd. Sure ishant took 9 wickets but he was still mediocre. Our test attack is poor and going to keep costing us. We bench wicket takers like yadav and pandey and the results are there to see. CONCEDING 500 AFTER NZ WERE 38/3. Ok say we conceded 50 less runs, WE WOULD HAVE WON!! Dhoni will pick the same unit and we will all suffer another loss because this side can't take 20 wickets. Our bowling coach is crap and unable to tell bowlers to bowl consistently in areas like southee and boult were doing. We have no workhorse like wagner (maybe pandey). Until we sort this out we won't win a thing.

They will turn in a good performance followed by a few mediocre performances. A lot of this has to do with poor levels of fitness and stamina. They can't keep up the same intensity game after game or even after the initial burst. Shami seems to be an exception to this but he has to be taken care of. In India, Punjab, Haryana can easily become the hotbed of fast bowling but those people are too high most of the time, too lazy and too busy chasing girls to become fast bowlers. Lazy feckers. We didnt get a single good fast bowler from Punjab/Haryana belt after Kapil Dev.

So what you are saying is totally untrue. Cricket is not that much popular in that part. With Cricket the thing is there was never any effort made to make the sport reach in the inner parts of country. It was mostly concentrated in Mumbai,Chennai and Karnataka with strong cricket boards and that is true even till today.

SA Joburg test - 1st innings we blew them away, then 2nd innings couldn't take 10 wickets from 450 runs! Yet southee and co had us worried when we only had 150 odd after dhawan left, and that was with rahane, dhoni and jadeja to come. Good bowling creates pressure, takes wickets. Ok our batsmen failed in first innings, yet they did much better 2nd innings and had bowlers conceded 40 runs less the match was ours. Dhoni is the root of this issue. He selects a tiring bowler and an incompetent one. The incompetent one struck some oil and now has reserved his pace. Yet on bench we have 2 pacers who could add a new dynamic to indian bowling. Yadav has ALWAYS impressed me despite having to bowl on dead indian pitches.

No backing whatsoever, backs vinay kumar and unadkat, basically any medium pacer. He ruined bhuvi, who is just beginning to get back his touch.

Why not try 7 or 8 bowlers if we need to pick 20 wickets
Marut Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Both batters and bowlers cost us the first test. We simply can't give a lead of 300 with our inept batting. There was no big partnerships like NZ had during their first innings. We were lucky to be chasing 400 after that failure.

I remember pak leveled the series against Australia and beat England in a test match despite having 11 absolute mugs with the bat due to Aamer, Asif and Gul. Also, no substitute for pace, shami proving that again and again.
