To be fair ... The Mitchell Johnson since 2013 does that ... The Johnson of 2009 vs England or 2010/11 vs England, or the one in 2012 against South Africa at Perth (2nd innings) started to slip into mediocre spells. I wouldn't even call them defensive ... It was just wide filth. The Johnson right now is unplayable and by far and away the best bowler on current form. Imo, the Johnson vs. Steyn debate is a bit like the Lara vs. Sachin debate. On their best day, Lara was more destructive than Sachin ... but if you had to pick one over the course of a long series, you'd probably pick Sachin for the consistency. Similar thing with Johnson vs. Steyn.

That is unfair comparison steyn has best strike rate ever well almost He looked like he had niggle so clearly he is not at his best otherwise he is same guy who can pick 6 wickets for 8 runs in one spell Johnson is quicker and way he gets wickets is different but on their days they are equally lethal but in different ways Steyn with swing and control at pace while Johnson with pace and bounce

Yep, Steyn is obviously one of the world's very best, and he can bag a ton of wickets... The thing that Steyn doesn't do though is install a sense of fear into the opposition like Johnson does... Steyn picks up loads of wickets through swing & seam movement and bowling near perfect lines at pace, but that doesn't install the same sort of fear into batsmen as Johnson's sheer deadly pace and aggression does. Johnson's incredibe pace and relentless aggression on current form sends ripples of fear and nervousness through the entire opposition line-up, just look how he mentally destroyed England in the ashes... Steyn does not provide that same fear-factor and mental edge for his side. Both fantastic bowlers, but on current form not Steyn nor any other bowler that has walked the earth is as damaging and fearsome as Mitchell Johnson. 154kph placed at your throat with incredible accuracy relentlessly without tiring wins every day.

agreed :). Steyn instills that fear factor mentally into batsmen. He also has the ability to injure as seen from what he did to Cummings in 2007-08. Mitchy, however is the very real thing. Batsmen fear that their heads would be detached by his thunderbolts. I just hope he can maintain this for the rest of his career. The Sky is the limit for him.

On current form Mitch is way above everyone at the moment, he is in a different league, guy is doing something extra ordinary, extracting extra pace & bounce from short of a good length area consistently , starting from India vs Australia '13 ODI series till the current test, he has a perfect pivot in his bowling action which allows him to bang the ball into the pitch with fierce energy. Overall, Steyn has been more consistent backed with a legendary record. But on current form, even Steyn would agree that Mitch is bowling in a different league altogether. I have started to admire this guy, after a long long time cricketing world is watching a bowler who could scare the daylights out of a batsman.

It was first started in IPL then England ODI series after Ashes that's where I started believing that he can be real difference in next Ashes.
