The Realist Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Bishan Singh Bedi calls for Team India coach Duncan Fletcher’s sacking Indian spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi launched a scathing attack on Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher after team India’s tepid performances in their tours of South Africa and New Zealand. Bedi said that the Ranchi dasher has never handled his bowlers well and narrates an incident he witnessed on television to reiterate his point. “I was watching an India versus South Africa Test a few years ago and through the stump microphone, one could hear Dhoni instructing his leg-spinner [Amit Mishra] ‘khareed mat, khareed mat‘ (don’t buy your wicket). I said to myself, ‘Bishan Singh Bedi, you should thank your stars you are not playing under this guyâ€, Bedi said in an interview with Mid-Day. Bedi, however, stepped away from commenting on whether India needed to replace Dhoni as a Test captain, stating that he “doesn’t want to crush someone when he is down.†The spin wizard however urged the administrators and the people involved to be proactive if a change is what was required to take team India forward, he remarked, “If a change has to be made, it has to be made as soon as possible. What’s the point of only thinking about a change?†Bedi also urged for the selectors to look for an Indian coach with India’s woeful run abroad under current coach Duncan Fletcher continuing in the recently concluded Test series. “I have always believed that the Indian team’s coach has to be Indian. This mercenary nonsense has to stop some time. He (Fletcher) has made no impact and he will never make any impact. He is just toeing the lines of Dhoni and the powers. You need somebody who is assertive and accountable,†Bedi added. Bedi also pinpointed Fletcher for not taking responsibility and cowing away during a crisis situation and demanded an explanation from India’s Zimbabwe-born coach. The Sardar of Spin also predicted further misery for Team India if the duo of Dhoni and Fletcher are persisted with. “Can you imagine, the coach not appearing before the media and kids are thrown in front of the press. What’s the captain and coach there for? Can’t you face the media? The 0-1 defeat to New Zealand followed the 0-1 loss to South Africa earlier, India was whitewashed by England and Australia in 2011 and 2012. “This disaster was waiting to happen. You will go to England and Australia (later in the year) and you will be hammered to the point of unconsciousness,†predicted Bedi. Bedi concluded by stating that he was appalled at Dhoni’s excuses in the post-match press conferences. He also felt that there is something broken in the dressing room at the moment. “He is making a fool of us with his excuses and the media is not able to put things in black and white convincingly. My biggest fear is that, despite the swagger displayed by the players, it looks to be a very unhappy dressing room. The New Zealand tour was India’s second in succession – after South Africa – where they won not a single match. India drew their second Test against New Zealand after losing the first by 40 runs. It came after a similar 1-0 loss in South Africa in December, which meant that India had failed to win an overseas Test since in the West Indies in June 2011. Ganguly wanted Fletcher to assist Dhoni more. “Our reputation has been tarnished, but Dhoni needs help,” said Ganguly on Headlines Today news channel. “I don’t know what Duncan Fletcher is doing. The approach needs to be right, and Fletcher needs to help Dhoni. He has clearly struggled and he needs to be more involved. He needs to plan better and the selectors have to assess and get the right squad. “I saw Allan Donald (the bowling coach) in South Africa, walking around the boundary line, talking to his bowlers. But I don’t see Joe Dawes (India’s bowling coach) doing that.” Ganguly believed India’s bowling, the spin department in particular, left much to be desired and made a case for the recall of Harbhajan Singh. “India should find two good spinners who can bowl in all conditions. (Ravindra) Jadeja is not good enough,” he suggested. “There is a case for Harbhajan to come back and Pragyan Ojha too. In fact, Ojha must play in Tests.” With regard to the batting, Ganguly was encouraged by Shikhar Dhawan’s performance, but said there was yet an opportunity for Virender Sehwag to return. “Dhawan will get better, his century and 98 (both in New Zealand) is a good sign,” said Ganguly. “However, Rohit (Sharma) is not consistent enough. So there is still a place for Sehwag.” Ganguly also pointed out that tours should be planned better, and India needed to play more side matches when they go abroad. “India have to play two-three warm-up matches abroad,” he said. “They need time to prepare for overseas tours, because otherwise, if you lose the first few matches, you start to panic.” He stressed again that Dhoni’s captaincy was too defensive. “He needs to take more risks. Winning all the tosses and batting second is defensive. There is a need to get more attacking with field set-up. Playing only one slip in the conditions in New Zealand is not good. Dhoni needs to take more risks in Tests,” said Ganguly, but added that Dhoni remained India’s best option. “You have to keep supporting Dhoni. A lot has changed, with a lot of new players coming in and it’s a young squad. But this is the best possible team. The selectors don’t have much of a choice. Since the BCCI prefers not to let anyone speak freely, we can only speculate but it is clear something is not working. One need only look at Australia to see the fruits of a good bowling coach’s labour. putrevus Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I can understand to some extent this love fest for Dhobi but wtf has Duncan flecther done since he has taken over it has been one crappy result after another it is 0-12 since his taking over.What more evidence you need that this guy stinks. If players and captain swear on how hard Duncan works and how he is making them better and that translates into "he is a moron who lets us do what we want and does not bother us with anything."

Famed for obsession with fast bowlers and hate for medium pacers. Yet while indian coach trundle after trundler is picked. He has no influence. Its all dhoni and his mafia. Just their to pick up the pay and say bye bye. Cant blame him , as if started acting like proper coach will shown the door in 5 mins by dhoni and srini
