Would it be fair to ask Pujara to make his ODI debut in these circumstances' date= can we expect him to do more than Rohit would. If he did open I think Rohit should bat at 5 instead of Rayudu. Right now the middle order is hopeless.

This will not be Pujara's OI debut, he has already played 2 ODIs albeit against Zimbabwe as an opener and w/o much success. The ideal opening pair in LOI is one where there is an aggressive batsman at one end (Dhawan) and someone who can handle the new ball calmly at the other end (Pujara?). His role should be to hold one end up, rotate the strike (Rohit has been awful here), while Dhawan goes berserk. So I guess Pujara coud be someone who could do the job. Rahane could also open, but I am not sure Pujara could up the ante in the middle overs.

Good move there to move Karthik up the order :nice: I feel he can open and bat better than he does at No. 6. Also Rohit is consuming so many balls and killing all the momentum in the first 10 overs, putting no pressure on the opposition even on loose deliveries. Karthik will do better than him at that position.

Mishra is useless. His fulltosses, half trackers will be thrashed. Rahul Sharma is ignored by selectors. Karn Sharma can be a better option than Mishra and Nadeem too.

I agree Nadeem has been doing really well for India A, but I would still play binny ahead of rayudu, the commitment he showed on the field was fantastic, he is getting a lot of crap because he got out on a duck, but he needs to be given the confidence as he gets from Karnataka and he will do much better than rayudu/ Rahane / Dk all IPL hacks. His bowling created a chance and could have had a wicket to his name, was not overly expensive either. So all in all I would replace rayudu with amit mishra and the rest can remain the same to add some more bit to the bowling + mishra can bat a bit , these days can match what rayudu makes.. From today's XI I would love to see them drop bunny and play pandey as one change and also drop useless DK and play Pujara as the second change..... Then Rayudu can keep wickets and Pujara can open with catch dropping dhawan and nohit can move down to slog in the end. Then against afghanistan they should definitely rest Shami and play Aaron in his place so that aaron hopefully gets a fifer and his mojo back.

Shammi can hit, so move him up the order. Get Mishra in as we can use another spinner to contain/get wickets. Swap DK with Pujara. Pujara won't be good for LO. He is good as a TO batsman
