England enjoyed perhaps their best session of the first Test as Sam Robson and Gary Ballance batted through till lunch and extended their second-wicket partnership to an unbroken 122. Having seen off some disciplined bowling in the first hour, both batsmen capitalised on the loose balls towards the end of the session and went to lunch with unbeaten fifties. With the low bounce in mind, India's seamers bowled noticeably straighter lines than their England counterparts. Occasionally, this meant they drifted on to the pads; Sam Robson tucked Mohammed Shami for three leg-side boundaries in the first hour. But they constantly made both batsmen play. Shami bowled full and straight, Bhuvneshwar did the same with MS Dhoni standing up, and even Ishant Sharma started his spell bowling a good six inches closer to the batsmen than his natural length. Robson and Ballance were up to this test. Ballance's trigger movement usually takes him so deep in his crease that he plays his front-foot shots from barely a foot outside his crease. Today he stood outside his crease. Robson got on top of the ball when he defended off the front foot, and even Bhuvneshwar's inswing, by and large, didn't cause his head to fall over. The majority of the session passed without incident. As he had done yesterday evening, Ishant produced an edge from Ballance - the ball dropping well short of third slip - and beat the left-hander's bat on a couple of occasions early in his spell. Robson was almost entirely untroubled by the fast bowlers, and only produced a chance when Ravindra Jadeja came on, inside-edging as he tried to work the ball around the corner. Virat Kohli dived to his left from leg slip and got his fingers under the ball but couldn't hold on. Robson was on 43 at this point. Robson, courtesy those leg-side fours off Shami, had outscored Ballance till late in the session, when the bowlers lost their discipline and sent down a series of release balls. There had been no fours for 12 overs when Ishant went around the wicket and lost his line, feeding Ballance a ball on his pads that he clipped to the midwicket boundary. A short ball followed three balls later, and Balance slapped it away past backward point. Moving back to right-arm over, Ishant sent down another leg-side delivery that Ballance tucked away for his third four of the over. Stuart Binny replaced Ishant from that end and took a couple of overs to find any rhythm. By then, Ballance had already guided him away for two fours down to third man - the first of these shots bringing up his half-century - and driven a half-volley handsomely to the cover boundary. Binny dropped short against Robson as well, and he steered him behind point to go from 46 to 50.

Not everyone can adapt indian dont have a good history of fast bowlers why not give one task than multiple tasks.

Is there a possibility Now of us losing this test :(( I mean let us say Eng gets a marginal lead or even close to our 1st innings total....A 2nd innings collapse is not totally out of the equation for us.....and I expect England to knock those runs off relatively easily or come up trumps in a thriller.

yes a good chance hope we dont get into a defensive mindset when we bat though a loss here would be heartbreaking but kaptaan kool will remain unfazed

as long as we get a 75-80 lead,we are safe. should get 250 batting second on this pitch easily
